I hate asking for QL help again, I really should invest in the program for myself one of these days.

I have a rifle that I need to get working with again. 26" barrel 1:7 twist Savage that I built. I have the DTAC and Berger 115's on hand. Powders I have are RL22, PP4000MR, I&H4350, I&H4831 and SC and H1000 on my bench. Berger sent me their data but it doesn't list PP4000MR which has a burn rate in between I7828 and RL22. I just need a starting point with these powders and both bullets kind of like this data Dr Mike gave me in another post.

Code:
Cartridge : .250 Savage
Bullet : .257, 85, Nosler BalTip 43004
Useable Case Capaci: 40.423 grain H2O = 2.625 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 2.515 inch = 63.88 mm
Barrel Length : 22.0 inch = 558.8 mm

Predicted Data for Indicated Charges of the Following Powders.
Matching Maximum Pressure: 50000 psi, or 344 MPa
or a maximum loading ratio or filling of 107 %
These calculations refer to your specified settings in QuickLOAD 'Cartridge Dimensions' window.

I'm not certain this is what you are looking for, but here goes. These data are generated using a 59K psi chamber pressure maximum. This is near SAAMI pressure standards, and the final tweak will produce minimal velocity changes. I would drop back ten percent (or at least five percent) and work up. When you lock in on a specific powder, I'll be pleased to help if I can.

Unfortunately, 4000MR has not been included in the data set at this time. I would anticipate it will be included in the next data set release.

Thanks again Dr. Mike!

I was really hoping for the 4000 MR as there is a pretty good supply of it locally. Not much data on that one, I guess I'll have to email Alliant. Anyway I know where I can get the other powders that I left in as well. I've got plenty of good places to start, I guess I'll just put that 4000 MR on the back burner for now. I'll probably start with RL22 since it is what I have the most of on hand that I really don't use for anything, and had bought specifically for this rifle.

Do you have the Berger manual? I've got it if you need any info from it.

I believe a warm 6mm flinging slippery 115's at good velocity should be one heck of a long range deer, pronghorn and coyote cartridge...

I could see doing that on a regular .243, a .243 AI, a 6mm Rem, the .240 Weatherby, 6mm-06 wildcat... Something along those lines, or even a 6-284...

Guy,

Thanks for the offer, Berger sent me the data on the 115's. They showed a lot of promise a couple of days ago when I shot them. I agree about a good LR round, but my rifle weighs 12lbs, I'll not be packing it too far.
