I just bought a new Remington 700 Sendero 25-06 and I would like to see if any of yall have any for loads. I am interested in which powder, primer, and bullet configuration to use. The rifle will be used to hunt pigs (ground hogs). Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

 Punch that little "search" button up towards the top of the page and type in .25-06 - you'll get all sorts of great info on the cartridge. It's very popular with the guys here.

I'm a big fan of the 100 grain bullets, loaded over H4350, in Winchester cases and the Federal 210 match primer. The load is accurate, hard hitting. Good flat trajectory & high velocity. My top loads have the 100 grainer moving at 3340 fps - no problem - from a 24" barrel.

I believe your Sendero has a 26" barrel - so you should see even more velocity! Of course, it'll shoot lighter bullets even faster, but I don't bother with anything lighter in my rifle, since the 100 grainer does exactly what I want it to accomplish.

Regards, Guy

I pretty much have to agree with Guy on this one. A 100 grain bullet in front of H 4350 is an outstanding combination in the 25-06. A very good all around load. I use H 4350 and 100 grain Partitions for wild hogs, antelope, deer, etc. You could substitute the 100 grain Ballistic Tip and have a hell of a load for woodchucks.

I have shot some marmots here in CA (same thing as your woodchucks) with the 85 grain Ballistic Tip and it sure does a number on them. I have shot some in excess of 500 yards with it and even at that range it just sails them off the rocks they like to lie on.

For the 85 grain BT I had good luck with H 4350 and IMR 4831.

For ghogs, I'm assuming you might be taking some longer shots?? Maybe, if not the 85g NBT out to about 600 yards would be killer. Should be able to get close to 3700fps with RL-19. Very accurate combo out of my 25-06. Using win cases and fed 210 primers, loaded to 3.225"

For a little extra reach, you could try the 100g NBT. Starts off a litle slower at around 3350, but will catch up to the 85 by the time it gets to 500-600 yards. Wind drift will be cut by using the 100g bullet, helping you to consistently hit them a litle easier. I have 2 loads with the 100g NBT, there as follows.

52.2g IMR-4350, win case, cci br2 primer, 3.250" 3325fps, .75" MOA

53g IMR-4831, win case, WLR primer, 3.250" 3350fps, .25" MOA

For even a little extra reach, you cold try the 115g NBT and try to get into the 1K club.

I have several loads with 115g NBT, but I have 2 favorites. As follows

49g IMR-4350, win case, cci br2, 3.250" 3150fps, .5-.7" MOA

51.5g RL-22, win case, cci br2, 3.250" 3050fps, .5-.7" MOA

Hope some of these might lead you in the right direction. Remember to start a couple grains lower, these are pushing MAX loads.

25.06 is one of my favorites and I like to load 49grn's of imr 120 pt's remington case and federal 210's. 51 grn's of imr 4350 with the 100 bt's and 57 grn's rl 19 with 85 bt's for about 3600 fps with 24 inch barrel. I gave some barnes 100 grn xcl's a try but they wouldn't shoot better than 1.5 @ 100 yards no matter what powder I used, what a waste of money they were.

buckfever-

I see your from Pendleton. 25-06 is my favorite caliber hands down. Have shot everything from pdogs to elk and black bears with mine. Anyways, since your only about 25 minutes away, maybe we can get together and hunt some yotes or go shooting. You interested in long range shooting?? I have access to at least 800 yards, sometimes out to 1150. Let me know.

Remingtonman That would be great I don't have any where to shoot anything farther than about 150 yards unless I head up to the mountain's and shoot'n dog's sounds good to. I'v only gone out twice only seen one and could not get my 25.06 out in time and he was gone.

Thanks for the input guys. I have a can of IMR 4350 and went out and bought a box of 100 gr ballistic tips. Now i'll play around and see what I can come up with.
