If you want more coyotes than deer, go with the 25-06. If more deer, the 280 Rem.

Good advice, that. Our preference in cartridges doesn't have to be justified, nor is it always rational.

I'd say you have a heck of a lot of rifles, and probably ought to put one of your .243's to work, or your .308 Win, or borrow your wife's .270! No need for a new rifle with all those on hand.

It's easy to say go with the 280 since I own one and it's one of my favorite calibers, but there's nothing wrong with the 26-06! 7MM-08 isn't a bad choice either.

I would suggest the 25-06 for the game you mention. I have one in a Tikka t3 lite that is a pleasure to shoot and carry. Might be something to check out.

That was my decision some years ago Fotis, and I've never regretted it.

Didn't need the .25-06 though until after I'd given my youngest son the 6mm Rem! Once I did that, it didn't take me long at all to figure out that I needed another soft-kicking, flat-shooting rifle for coyotes & mule deer.

They both work great.

I have both, the 25/06 is my 'deer and LR varmint' gun and the .280 is my elk rifle. Stoked with Ballistic Tips and E Tips respectively.

Flat shooting light recoil deer coyotes sounds like you need a 2506.

The 25/06 is an outstanding cartridge and another good choice is the 257WBY in a Vanguard to hold cost down on rifle purchase. I really liked mine in a Mark v.

My thought as well. I own a 25-06 and 257 Wby, and if I really wanted to be able to reach out I'd take the Weatherby any day. In the upgraded S2 Vanguard it's a great platform.

I agree with Scotty. Since you want a light rifle and recoil is a consideration, then the .25 oughta get the nod.
