Well, I went out and shot yesterday with the 100gr BT's Mark sent me. I decided to try RL17, RL19 and RL22 with them. Overall, RL17 was the best and most consistent as far as accuracy. I have 0 ideas what it was doing for speed, but I went up to 53.5gr which turned in a .75" group. It seems to like the 100gr bullets. Not really what I am looking for, but I think it would shoot them well and be a great antelope combo.

It also shoots the green box Remington 100gr Core Lokts pretty decent also. These were the 1st three out of a perfectly clean barrel and I think I threw the last shot which took it out a little, but they are pretty consistent.

I just don't need a 25-06 to shoot 100gr bullets. I have a 243 that does fine with 90-100gr'ers, so I am thinking I need to try something else. It has turned out to be a decent enough shooter. Scotty

You're making progress. As you continue to shoot, you may find that it begins to digest heavier bullets with acceptable accuracy.

Yeah, maybe. It is shooting the lighter bullets very consistently, just didn't do well at all with the 115gr PT's and that is kinda what I wanted to shoot out of it. I tried the 115gr BT's also, and they shot well, so I don't get why it doesn't shoot the PT's very well at all? Scotty

Scotty,

I was wondering what would happen if you lapped the barrel with JB Bore Paste?

beretzs,

Earlier this year I worked up a load for a friends 16 year old daughter with the .25-06 and the 110 AccuBond. Nosler brass, F210, 51.0 grains of H4831SC trots out at just over 3100 FPS. Three shot groups consistently under .5" She got all one shot kills on a pronghorn buck, 4X4 mule deer and a hefty cow elk. The recovered AccuBond on the elk could be used as an advertising photo. Perfect mushroom and weighed 87 grains. Just under the hide on the opposite shoulder.

Ruger M77 with 3-9X40 Leupold.

Don't sweat the 100 grainers - they kill deer very well too. They'll also do a fine job out there at 300+ yards.

I too like the 115's, but have done good things with the 100's as well. If your rifle likes 100's.... Use 'em!

I'm with Jerry 919 and think you should give those nice streamlined 110 gr. Accubonds a try. Dont' give up on the Partitions quite yet if you haven't tried the 120 gr. Partitions. IMR4350 and H4831SC and give those a workout???

Thanks for all the feedback on it. I will give the 4350's and 4831 a try if the rifle sticks around. It is starting to show it wants to shoot, it is just very picky on what it wants. If I don't sell it, I will try a few more powders out. So far I have ran Retumbo, RL25, 22, 19 and 17. RL17 and Retumbo being the best so far. I was just kind of dispointed in that it would not even begin to group the 115gr PT's as those were going to be be my work horse. I will try the 120's also. I have some of them too! Scotty

Scotty,

I would try IMR 4350 and IMR/H4831.

I might try them if the rifle doesn't sell. I am headed to NH until March tomorrow, so I will be won't be loading during that time. I will probably buy another box of 100gr Remingtons to shoot for the meantime. They shoot decent enough to kill coyotes with I think. Scotty

Call me simple - but it looks like you're already well under an inch with that top group. Me? I'd load up a mess of 'em and take it hunting. A 1" .25-06 is a 400 yard hunter.

You are right in that part Guy. I think if I had more time I would do just that, but right now, I am out of time and with everything being closed today, I couldn't get anymore 100gr BT's. They did shoot pretty well, but it took alot to get there. Maybe it will start settling down the more it is shot? Scotty

49 grs IMR 4350, CCI 250 primer, Rem or WW case and keep those 115 partitions 20 to 30 thousands off the lands and it should shoot very well. From a 24" barrel you will be doing around 2950 fps of so. If you want a real deer/lope load use the same load and use the 117 Sierra flat base Pro Hunter bullet. You might loose the the front shoulders but they don't go anyplace but straight down.

I will give the 4831's and 4350's a try later on, after I can load again. Scotty

Scotty - good to see it's coming together. It stinks when we get an idea of a paticular bullet weight / range
we'd like to use and then the gun blows that idea all to heck. As long as the lighter bullets shoot good, and you're comfortable with the rifle, I wouldn't hesitate to use them.

Going to attempt to use some of those 115's on a yote next weekend

Good luck Mark with the 115's! However, with the release of the new M70 in 25-06, I am thinking there is going to be a change pretty soon! Scotty
