Well my friend has been making me a deal for my winchester model 70 7mm wsm. Instead of buying a 300 rum and trading it to me he has offered me a good deal ( I think). The deal is trade me his brand new S&W I bolt in a 25-06 that has not even had 20 rounds out of it for my 7mm wsm. Is this a good deal? Thanks

that sounds like a horrible deal

IF you get it and dont like it you would be hard pressed to get 300 bucks for it you can get close to five I would think for the gun you have

Ok, so I wont trade if the deal isnt even close. I also found another deal. I can trade my short mag for a 338 win mag in a ruger m77 with a 26 inch barrel.

Sounds like your friend really wants your 7mm WSM, and as if you are not that interested in it. Perhaps he wants to buy it outright, which would give you money in hand to buy something you do want.

Maybe you should tell him you want a leupold VX 3 3.5x10 on the rifle that would sweet'n the deal for you

Well tomorrow morning I will be trading my rifle for the S&W I bolt. I know that I am getting the lower part of the deal but the rifle just feels alot better in my hands than what the 7mm wsm does. Plus the gun will come with a good scope and the dies and brass for the gun.

I got the rifle and there was only 13 rounds fired through it, so Right now I am breaking the barrel in and so far everything is going great. I love the gun and wish I had made the trade a long time ago. The groups that the gun is giving me right now with store bought rounds is awesome even with cleaning after every shot.

as long as your happy that is what matters I still think you got the short end
I know I did get the short end, but at least this rifle feels alot better in my hands then the short mag did. So its worth it to me.

Corbin, considering your model 70 was the super shadow version, I feel you did OK on the trade. Both the 7WSM and 25-06 are great long range cartridges for deer sized game, with the 7 being favored only for larger bodied/heavier boned animals imo.

The "short end" is relative. What matters is whether you are pleased. If the rifle shoots well and fits you, that is a major consideration. The 25-06 is a great cartridge, and easy to load for. From your break-in, it sounds like the rifle has real potential. We'll be interested to hear about handloads once you get to that stage.

My 7mm wsm was the black shadow

Does anyone have any really good accurate loads for the 25-06? The barrel is a 23 inch T/C match barrel from what I have read.

115 Nosler Ballistic Tip or 117 Sierra, 52 grs H-4831 , CCI-BR2 primer, Rem. case or 49 grs IMR or AA 4350, CCI 250 primer and either the 115 BT or 117 Sierra.

You will be pleasingly shocked the first time you shoot a deer with that 25-06 and it hits the ground like the earth has been jerked from under it.
