25-06 Super grade

Wow- very nice rifle Brian! I really would like to have another 25-06 and that Supergrade looks like a good candidate.

Where did you score her????????????????????

Fotis,

Found it on Gunbroker. I was looking for a new Kimber and it jumped out and grabbed me. It is almost too nice to take afield. Thank god most of my Antelope hunts dont last too long. I think they taste better if you drop them before 9am. Later in the day they get too wound up. BTW the new Kimber will be here by Thursday. Talk to you soon Brian

That sure is a purrdy gun... looks like it could use a drop in the dirt or two. Tell you what... send her on out here, and I can have it looking like a fence post in oh... three... maybe four years. Then, you won't feel so bad about hunting with it... this is one of the services I offer... free to all on this website. You don't want to put the first scratch on that Supergrade (or Kimber, or Custom 7x57... whatever, I don't discriminate)... send her out, I'll take care of it for you... that's just the nice kind of guy I am!

What kimber?

Dadgum, look at that wood. Congrats on that new rifle! I'm a sucker for the super grades. From what I understand, Winchester borrowed David Miller's classic stock contour back in the day. I believe they're the hands down prettiest factory rifles out there. And lately, the wood the FN boys down in SC are stocking them with is incredible. I had one of the older ones in 300 Win out of New Haven, before they closed their doors. Beautiful rifle, but just couldn't get it better than 1.5 MOA, no matter what I tried. Finally, the guys at Score High Gunsmithing mic'd the bore and damned if it wasn't over sized and the magazine box too deep, getting pinched and causing stress on the action. In a fit of anger and stupidity, I sold her off. We'd killed a lot of elk together and if I were a smarter fellow, I'd have sent her off to PACNOR for a rebarrel, and had that mag box milled down, so we could make sweet music together again. Oh well.
Anyway, like you, I saw a new one on GUNSAMERICA with some of the best wood I've ever seen on a factory gun. Gotta love that bluing too. I jumped at it thinking it would be a beauty for my daughter to grow into and that we could be M70 .270 Win buddies. Considering she's two, I'd have a little time to work up a load and her dope for shooting long. Had Score High mic it and you guessed it, big barrel again and no returns. Sent to Winchester who test fired it with Federal 130 MKs and said it went under 1/2". Accurate is accurate, no matter if the bore looks like it was finished with a corn cob (mine isn't and has a beautiful finish) or it's oversized, like mine. They sent me the target to back it up, so I've got my fingers crossed that it'll like daddy's load of 57.6 of 7828 SC with 140 ABs. It's the hot ticket in my pre-64 and if our velocities are similar, then the dope work up should be easy. Guess we'll see...
Congrats again on a beautiful rifle and let us know how she shoots! I'll do the same.
Joe

Terrific rifle! She should treat you well. Best of luck on the pronghorn hunt.
