A 25 Pronghron??? Never heard of that one. Should be a cannon. Custom Dies? Bet there are some impressive velocities to be had there. Id think about swapping the scope for a trusted one too. If I read the thread right and its a Leupold, send it to them for a check up. I have done that several times. Turned out to be shooter error, and the wrong reloading recipie in all but one case, but they treated me good. CL

Finally, I have an update. I mounted new scope rings and a new scope, verified everything was tight and level, verified everything I could, including cleaning the rifle, shooting a few fouler shots, and then shooting for groups. Took nearly 10 shots to see where the impacts were at 50 yards. Once we got on paper, we shot a group. Had two touching and then the third, fourth, and fifth shots were all 10" apart from each other. I don't have a borescope, but I assume the barrel is probably shot out. I have never shot out a barrel, so is this something typical? I assume that the groups on a shot-out barrel would be more gradual, but would still shoot decently for a while. What am I missing?
I don't think that there are enough rifles like those in existence to truly determine but the cartridge is definitely a barrel burner. I have the same cartridge (albeit in a different name) but I have probably less than 150 firings in the rifle so I haven't shot out the barrel yet. Mine is a 257 WSM (not WSSM) and I have had good experiences with RL22, MagPro and IMR 4831. My barrel is a hunting weight profile; therefore, it does heat up quickly but 10" seems excessive. I think that the rate or speed that you shoot may be critical to the performance too... Just a thought.

Was this at 50 yds or 100 yds? Secondly are the holes in the target cut clean?

Boy- from what Ive been told and seen it takes a lot to burn out a barrel. You've had two shots touching and then these big spreads. Sounds like heating up or cabon fouling or a bedding issue. is this pattern repeatable (two shots close and then opening up)? Hate to say it, or a scope? CL

already cleaned, changed scope, torqued everything down, its not a repeatable thing. I am cooling the barrel down in between shots, not having a consecutive string of fire.

Sorry- you said all that earlier in this thread. Ugh- I hate chasing the variables- If it was me doing the shooting, I would blame it on "operator error". If you are confident in your replacement scope, then maybe its a powder/ load issue although it dosen sound like that. I recall at one point, my 250 Savage went from around an inch to 3-4 inches. Turns out I forgot I had added a grain of 4350 (over a previously accurate charge) to that box of reloads. Groups went to pieces, but I didnt figure it out until already invested in a new Leupold
. Ive also had a known accurate load cause problems (I think) when I opened a new pound of powder. That one still ticks me off.... Sorry not picking on you at all, just sharing the trials and tribulations, and dumb mistakes Ive made. Always like seeing a .25 cal. work well. I'll shut up now.... Good luck! CL
