I have some 110 gr. ABs, and was wonderin' if they got enough left @ 350-400 yds. for mature mulie bucks? I can keep them in 6" @ 400, but should I consider another bullet, and which one?
I've killed more then few at 600 yards with my 25-06s and 115g NBTs at 3200 over the years to know that your 257 will STOMP any muley out to at least 600 and then some...
400 yards is a chip shot and about half the maximum distance you'll get from it.
Hope that gives you an idea what to expect from it, full potential wise anyways, with right scope, etc.
Good luck! Always wanted a 257 but I've yet to have deer get away from my 25-06 so ill just keep dreaming about the 257
Yep, it will be fine. I load them for a neighbor I hunt with in his 257 bee. Stay away from the REAL hard angles and they will stomp deer. They will take out the front shoulders fine but on real hard quartering shots they don't penetrate quite as much as I'd like to see. I'm nit-picking, the only bullets we recovered and wound channels we saw came from very dead deer. It would be my first choice in a 25 cal rifle.
Do your part and the AccuBond will do its part. I have seen mature mulies fall to a 87gn bullet from a .243, but it was only a 125ish yard shot. The 110 AB is a great bullet.
The 110 AB seems to be very accurate in my .257 Roberts and the .418 BC is enough to hold sufficient energy at 400 yards for deer, I believe. I have killed mule deer at 350 yards with a .257 Roberts and a 100 gr Partition, no problem. Plus, I have done it to 400 yards with a .25-06 and 115 Partitions.
I am thinking that big jugged Weatherby will hammer mulies with the 110 AB Jim. It should be a screamer out of the rifle as well. A few of the guys have tortured that bullet.. Not quite PT level, but it seems like it has more than enough.
I think Fotis was smoking them out around 3400-3500 from his Weatherby. That is alot of swat for a relatively small bullet.
I'm with these guys, if your rifle shoots it well, and it appears that is the case, the 110 gr. AccuBond should work great. With the fps you can get out of that mini-cannon, the 120 gr. Partition sure would be super though!
