Well, I have found the 100gr GS load. Great velocity, no pressures, great group. Using IMR7828, Fed 215 primers (CCI had to big of 1 1/2 group lower velocities) Weatherby brass, OAL 3.201" group size .164"

Average fps

What a bughole bullet. I'm taking notes. Great shooting and a great load workup by yourself.

Sweet and Congrats ! I don't think it gets any better does it ??

I'm taking notes, I'm taking notes.....bought my first can of 7828 last weekend....

Told you!!!!!!!

ha ha !!!!!!!!!!

You were right POP and thank you JD388, it is so cool when you find a good load like this and I don't have to tell you that.

Nice group !
Nice load ! 100 grain GS ? What is a GS ? Speer grand slam ?
That groups is just a touch better than the best one I ever shot.
Mine was with a 160 grain acubond over H-1000 at 3200 from a model 70 7mmstw. I measured that one at .17
I will need to try the IMR-7828 some more in my .257 weeatherby.
3700, Don't know if I want to push my model 700 that hard but with that MK-5 action. I would.
I would love to build a .257 weatherby on a Ruger #1 with a 28 to 30 inch barrel.

GS HV Custom bullets are not speer Grand Slam. My best group I ever shot was from a Savage 116FS 7mmSTW. The GS does not stress the actions. The pressures are the same at 3717fps as conventional loads at 3550fps due to the less resistance and less bearing surface of the GS because of the driving bands being the only thing that touches the lands.

That is a fascinating prospect indeed a Ruger #1 camber for 257Wby.

To put this GS HV 100gr bullet in perspective having a BC of .457 at 3717fps the following tells the story.

Energy:
Muzzle 3065
100yds 2675
200yds 2330
300yds 2025
(over 2,000 ft pounds of energy out to 300yds for a 100gr bullet!!!!)
400yds 1754
500yds 1514
600yds 1301
(a 100gr bullet having enough energy to kill a deer at 600yds!!!!)

Velocity retained at 600yds - 2421fps

Zero is - 330

Point Blank is 425yds

Hold on top shoulder at 450yds and good out to 550yds.

Two months from now I have scheduled a shooting time on a government shooting range at a research lab and will be doing 500yd group tests wit this bullet. Should be fun and interesting.
