260 Rem Range Report

Great shooting Tim it certainly looks like you hit paydirt with H 4350 and the speed is very good for 140's.

I load the 140 A-Max on my friend Franks 6.5-47. With 40 grains of H4350, it will push the bullet at around 2700 fps. He made it to the top 10 in the non magnum class on our last 1000 yards competition with that load.

Good shooting by the way.

BTW, your 338 Lapua load is definitely elk worthy :) As for your POI going down as you went up in charge weight that is interesting, maybe some of the more experienced guys can figure it out.

Nice looking groups...with the A-max bullet shooting the way it is, there isn't a need to shoot the expensive Bergers 8) . Not sure on the POI. There is the Bernoullis law that applies to fluids when there is a change in velocity, but I'm not sure if that applies to bullets. We need some of the educated engineers on the site to fill us in on that one.

Joel, I was pretty excited to see the cheaper bullet be the one that shot the best! And from results I've seen from others, I have no reservation using the Amax for deer size game. It's basically a ballistic tip.

I do have a theory on the POI change. I think I read somewhere that when the bullet is fired that the barrel vibrates in a pattern similar to a sine wave. And that your greatest accuracy nodes will come when the tip of the barrel is either at the top or bottom of that wave at the moment the bullet exits. I could see the POI possibly being lower, if this is true, and I'm at the node at the bottom of the wave.

Great shooting Tim! Way to go with the Hornady's. Pretty impressive stuff right there. That rifle is really starting to show you what it has.

Oh, that 338 is a drill man! That should work for a measly old cow!

Thanks Scottie! Ya I think it's breaking in nicely!

Might be a little over kill....but I've yet to take an animal with it and figured this might just be a good opportunity! We'll see if my wife will allow a hunting excursion during our vacation.... If nothing else there is a pretty nice 1000 yard range that my Dad is a member at back home, so hopefully I'll get a chance to get up there around Christmas time with the 260 and stretch it out a bit. And actually there is a rimrock at the back of the range that's at 1109 yards that's fun to take a poke at spots on the rock as well.

Those A max bullets are giving you impressive accuracy, need to give them a try too.
