This may not be exactly a reloading question but here goes anyway.

I am thinking about getting into the long range shooting game, 1000 plus yards. Seems like the 6.5 Creedmoor is all the rage, but can anyone explain to me what real advantage it has over the 260 Rem?

It fits 140 bullets into a 2.8" magazine with proper room to seat the bullet out of the powder chamber... If you build on a long action it seems like a moot point. Great brass is available for both.

Pretty good factory loads? That's about it imo.
Speeds with similar bullets appear similar.
Scotty is dead on on the cartridge length.

I have both a .260 Rem and a 6.5 Creedmoor. I like both. Either works well at distance. It would be difficult to distinguish between them.

My buddy is contemplating this very thing. The creed is a better case design but holds 2gr less powder and therfore equally loaded will be slower. More hunting loads available for the 260 as most of the creed factory stuff is match ammo. 260 is established and the creed is the upstart. Just my . $.02.

...well, I'll go along w/ most of this, especially the "better case design". The sharper shoulder & longer neck of the Creedmoor should give you longer case & throat life, & while the actual volume of the Creedmoor is a little less, useable volume after seating the bullet is about the same as the .260 Rem. The Creedmoor case seems to be more efficient & runs @ a higher pressure than the .260, so you get the same or slightly better MV's...

...one note, "Factory Data" for the 6.5 Creedmoor seems to be 'rather conservative' compared to QuikLoad or independent developed loads...
