There is a local deal on a Remington 700 in 264 Win Mag. Never owned one, have no need to own one, but I am into trying different calibers.

Seems loaded with 140 bullets , it would be a rocking rifle.

Thanks for your comments.

A sleek 140 gr bullet at 3100-3200 fps is a very good long range load, actually I like the sleek 130's at 3200-3300 fps just as much. Some guys like to lean on it harder but those speeds can be safely attained with powders like Retumbo, RL 25 and Magnum among others. I have found the W-W brass to be pretty crappy at times but Norma and Nosler produce good stuff. Still one of the very best long range rounds many years after it was designed.

Bought a Win. 70 Westerner in the early 1960s. Hunting Wyo., Colo., Montana and Utah with it, I filled several truck-loads with antelope and mulies. Most were shot with the very fine 125 grain Nosler Partition bullet. Never lost an animal. Even loaned it to a sheep-hunting friend where he dropped a super Montana ram with it.

I currently know of a super grade model 70 in .264 for sale, so , well ya never know!

My only personal caveat for the 264 is 26" tube.

SDs and BCs on 6.5, I mean .264 caliber, bullets are no joke. They punch way above their weight class and kill way out of proportion. What's not to love about pushing a 130 (129) grain pill with an SD of .264 (close to the .271 of a 180 gr 30 cal.) and BC of .561 at around 3300FPS? Talk about cheating the wind and delivering the goods at a manageable recoil level! Winchester's Westerner is the original long range round. My stepfather bought one when he left Texas for NM and it always delivered for him. From antelope to elk, it always carried the mail. That rifle and the caliber will always hold a special place with me. I'll double tap FOTIS on this one in that it's best with a 26" pipe. Scotty, a little help here...

Trying to meet up with the seller on Monday.

Sounds like a rifle/caliber worth taking for a tour.

Thanks

Orchemo,

Buy the .264 WM and don't look back. It is a great cartridge that will do all you ask of it and more.

There's room for two fine cartridges in the arsenal! Don't you hunt more than one game each year? Let's see: .264 for mule deer and black bear; .25-06 for whitetail and antelope; ...

Then what happens to the 25-06 if I have a 264 WM?

Shoot varmints or book more hunts. It is your job to bloody them all.

I have blooded 30-06's on Wyoming prairie dogs before.

I want to bloody my. 338 Fed on a black bear. My winter/spring project

I've used this to hunt White Tail, Grey squirrel and shot Mountain Grouse with it also using a .45 cal. patched round ball.
Oh ya I also shot wounded Ducks on a pond so my buddy could recover them. Took their heads right off :!:

But what about the 243, 6.5 swede, 7mm-08, 280 and on and on
Just like golf, you can't play the game with just one club. ;)

That maybe true of golf but beware the man who only owns one rifle because he knows how to use it.

The 264WM is the rage right now on here, along with the 35 Whelen. :)

You won't be disappointed with it.

Just curious, what model of 700 is it? Classic? CDL? CDL-SF?
