264WM and 35 Whelen at the range

Maybe try some Retumbo, and play with the seating depths as already suggested. Mine seems to like the 140 VLD with H1000 so far.

Wish I could join you on the range, Scotty! I know you're having fun with not one but with two rifles....

Keep posting the results for us!

I don't know about you guys, but I generally take at least three rifles to the range, one a rimfire, just to let barrels cool between groups

I will give Retumbo a try next. Right now, I think a little bedding experimentation. I think I will get somewhere in the neighborhood of 3300 with the 130's and RL22. That is plenty quick for me. I would like to try out some 140gr PT's/AB's though. I think those would be a hammer also. Scotty

Scotty,
That 60 grain Whelen load is a real keeper, will put the smack down on game with that 250 bullet!

I don't know what is is with overbore rifles like the 264 & 300 RUM but I have had the same experience shooting my Utra. Print two together but not three. I have had better success shooting one cold barrel shot at a time. Overbore guns are very consistent in heating up the barrels very fast. But that is good shooting with the 264.

Don

Thanks Don. I am looking at verifying that 60gr load and making sure it stays consistent. I have a feeling it will be fine though. This rifle has shot just about everything really well for me.

Yeah, the 2 in 1 out deal is a tough one to crack. Its funny, my 270WSM does not do that at all. It will stack shots right on top of one another. I think I may shoot it a little more and really let it cool down further between shots to see how it affects it. It does shoot well, so I am not too worried about it. Looking forward to stretching it out a little too. Scotty

before playing with seating depth, shoot a couple 5 shot groups and see if its a group within the group, or if it just keeps getting wider after the 2nd shot, I'm agreeing with the bedding crowd, wanna make it more consistant, bed the action (I prefer pillars) makes them that much more consistant.
RR

Thanks RR! I know you are right and know that is the best answer. I was trying to talk myself out of doing it, but in reality, it is only a few days of work for the rifle to be rock solid. I will try what you said first, this next time out. If it is still doing that, I will just order up some pillars. I already have enough Acra Gel I believe in order to finish the job. Scotty

Will do. Looking forward to getting out and giving it another go. Got the 338WM all loaded up also, just waiting on the dang stock to show up! Scotty
