Will Nosler ever consider building a rifle chambered in .270 Wby? Does anyone know if there is any other American made rifles chambered in .270 Wby from the factory other than the Mk V?

Palouser,

Welcome to the forum. You ask a good question. I'd guess that Nosler could one day chamber a rifle in the .270 Weatherby, especially if they thought there was a market for it. It is a great cartridge, but I wonder if sales are high enough to generate interest beyond the Weatherby offering. On the other hand, Remington did chamber the 257 bee in the Model 700 CDL SF Limited Edition. You just can't tell!

It seems like they are harder and harder to find but the ballistics are incredible for all the velocity nuts out there (like me). Nosler loads for the .270 Wby; they advertise a 130 Partition travelling at 3,450 fps which in my book is pretty impressive especially considering the SD and BC of the .277 line of bullets. I would love to see a Trophy Grade rifle in .270 Wby and have them load 140 Grain Accubonds at 3,250 fps but I would also like to travel to the moon. Thanks for the reply DrMike.

Well, you can reserve a flight to the moon on some projects. However, it might be worthwhile to drop a line to Nosler and present your case for the .270 Wby. Perhaps if a few people let Nosler know there was interest, you might see such an offering. You are correct that the Wby still tops the velocity charts for the .277 cartridges.

I was hoping someone from Nosler would read this but maybe there is a better way to express my interest? I just assumed that Bob would email me later tonight after I posted that I had and interested in him chambering the .270 Wby.

Several of the Nosler employees survey the postings from time-to-time, but they are pretty busy, I think. When they do respond to an inquiry, it seems more than exception than the rule.

I love my 270 Bee.

With RL22 and 140 AB's at 3280 did less than 1" at 200 yards.

It would be a cool one. That 270 WBY was chambered in a few M70's as well in the past. It is a heckuva screaming cartridge. I kinda went with the 270WSM as it was a little easier to find in rifles I wanted. If you haven't looked at the 270WSM, it deserves a look. It will run 150's at 3125 and 140's at 3200, and 130's at 3375. I know it isn't quite a Weatherby, but pretty near the same and with a rifle with 2" less barrel. Scotty

I look at the .270Wea from time to time myself....other than the MkV the only other rifle outside of custom projects is the Cooper arms. Pretty nice pieces, lighter than a MkV but still quite a few $$$. Since the .270Wby is one of their "short" cartridges, it should be a straightforward build if you've got a LA and magnum boltface laying about to rebarrel.

I love Weatherby cartridges, but I think the MkV action is too heavy and I'm not especially fond of the Wea. stock design in the looks department.

I love the ballistics of the WSM line but am kind of nostalgic for the older calibers and worry that new calibers (less than 15 years old) may not stand the test of time however good they may be (.223 WSSM vs. the .223 or .220 Swift). I agree...I am not fond of the wood stocked Weatherbys either. They are just not my taste in looks at all! I love Model 70's and the new Noslers and hope someday they would come out with one in .270 Wby. Hell, I would even buy a Vanguard if they chambered it in .270 Wby, just can't imagine spending $1,400 on a Mark V when I can't stand their looks...no offense Weatherby.

Thanks for your service FOTIS!!!

The 270 Wby and the 257 Wby would both be teriffic offerings in the M48.

Your in good company here buddy. Nice thing about that 270 is any 7RM, 300WM, 338WM, etc can be rebarreled for the 270. Heck, with a decent enough donor you could come in under a Weatherby AND have the the M70.

If they do consider producing the 270 Weatherby, I might have to break down and get another one. Just picked up a Lasermark a little while ago, and haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. Been too cold and have been working too much. I think that this one is #7. Best caliber ever created.

Palouser - I don't know if you've considered it - but it's a very easy job to have almost any belted magnum rifle re-barreled to .270 Weatherby.

For instance, if you like Model 70 rifles, and you find one in .300 Win mag, it could become a .270 Wby with just the swap to a different barrel.... That opens the field up to pretty much any rifle that's ever been offered in a belted magnum.

If Nosler will ever offer theirs in .270 Wby? Who knows? It would be cool. Great cartridge.

Guy

I remember a few years back I along with a few others kept hounding Nosler to chamber their rifles in 30-06. Well, today you can get a 30-06 in a Nosler rifle. I would agree that having a 270Wby in a 7 pound 6-8 ounce package depending on scope would really be a cool reach out and touch them mountain rifle. Who knows, stranger things have happened. Guy, has a great suggestion for you and you could have your 270Wby in something besides a Weatherby. :)

SJB358 and Guy - Thanks for the heads up on rebarreling a WinMag to 270 Wby. I didn't know it was that easy but that is a great idea. I could buy a new Win Model 70 for around $750 and put a Shilen barrell on for another $450 and still come in ahead of a Weatherby and still have a Model 70. Thanks for the idea...I don't know why I didn't think of that!

That's what were here for! HA!!! Finally, someone else to feel the brunt of our "helpfulness"!

Just because some of us are less susceptible to suggestion is no reason to be ebullient.

Sorry to keep bugging you guys and for showing my lack of knowledge on the subject of rebarrelling rifles but if I wanted to do the same thing (rebarrell a rifle) in 7mm Mauser for my wife/daughter, what donor actions could be used? Will any standard/non-belted long action work?

Thanks in advance!

The standard, non-belted long action is the one you will want to use for a 7X57. That is for sure a great cartridge!
