270 Win 124 Hammer Hunter H4831SC

I decided to get one of my favorites out and see what I could do with the 124 Hammers. I am using some old WW brass (new) and CCI200's. I started them .050" off the lands in my rifle which resulted in a 3.200" COAL for them.

That charge was right at 3009 average, so I kept pushing up.

That charge was 3060 Avg

62 went 3110 average.

I loaded up another couple charges a bit higher and shortened them .020 for the next trip out to see what happens. But overall, I wasn't terribly disappointed on how they ran on their first range session.

Yes they are. Generally I've had good luck with their recommendation of going up .5 gr at a time until you find pressure and back off 1 grain and shoot for group. Usually wind up at or under an inch, with the right powder. Tweaking OAL/Charge almost always shrink that down to .5 to .75 Usually around 20 bullets I have my load. They don't fall in line with others, and their absolute hammers throws everything out the window.

What is your 270 WSM twisted? I wanted to try something a skosh heavier, but there wasn't anything about the 124's that'd run in the 1-10 of my old Featherweight.

Its a Tikka with 1:9.5 I'm hoping It will stabilize it. Starting with a 15 sample pack

It should be a screamer if they stabilize. My 270 WSM is currently sitting at the plumbers waiting for the 1-7.5 Krieger to get put on.

Don't give up, Scotty ! With my 280 Rem and 140g Absolute Hammers it took me 3 different powders and increasing the crimp, until I found an accurate load. Unlike my 25-06 and 22-250 both with AH's, I found accuracy right away.

Oh I think it'll shoot Allen. I was fairly happy for that right out of the gate on my first try with them.
