Just got a new Tikka T3 270 Win earlier this week and im building loads for it. I already have some 130gr ABs loaded with H4831sc and still need to load up some 130 Btips. Also bought a box of 150gr Btips today just for the heck of it. Any load suggestions for the 150s?

DT,

Congratulations on the new rifle.
Take a look at H4831 and RL 22 powders. Both are excellent performers in the 270 Win with the 130 gr and 150 gr bullets.

I am with Jim DT, RL22 works really well in my 270WSM and that 150 BT in a 270 Win should work equally as well with the RL22. I have had excellent results on steel and deer with the 150 BT..

Not the Ballistic Tips but the 150 gr. Partition has always shot well for me using 57.0 gr. of H4831. Caution as it is a max load in my rifle.

I believe we have some H4831 in the cabinet as well as RL22. School me on the short cut powders though. Excuse me if this is a dumb question. Would the same amount, for example 59gr of H4831 be the same as 59gr of 4831sc? I have always just used what the books tell me and not interchange them.

H4831 and H4831SC have identical burn rates. Hence, the data is interchangeable. Remember, however, to drop back at least five percent and work up to ensure you don't have significant lot-to-lot variation creating problems for you.

Another vote for H4831sc.
CCI 200 primers

Carefully work up to your rifles max. Never seen it not work in a .270 win.

As I recall, H4831 & 150's are the classic "heavy" bullet combination for the .270 Win.

150 BT,s with H4831SC 3 ea. in the middle. I would say H4831 might work.

DT,

H4831 and H4831SC have the same burn rate so you can use the same charge. The advantage of SC is that is meters much better.
As mentioned, H4831 is the "classic" powder for the 270 Win.
Keep us posted on your load development. Starting with H4831 and RL 22, you should be where you want to be pretty quick.

Good luck.

Just waitin for it to quit raining and snowing here so I can get out to the range. I cant wait to see what this rifle will do. I hope its as good as everything I have read about them!

I think I might give the CCI 200/H4831 combo a try when I load up the 140 AB/BT over runs I just picked up.

Dunno if it's inherent in the cartridge or not but the .270 has always, so far anyway been the easiest cartridge for me to get great accuracy and velocity. Also, I've gotten the best accuracy with 150 gr. bullets, at least in the rifles I have so far. My least accurate rifle is a Ruger #1A and it's still right at one inch. I have two Mausers that do .75 to .80" and a Winchester M70 XTR push feed that I picked up cheap at a gun show that does .75" with Winchester 150 gr. Power Point ammo and my handload with the 150 gr. Sierra Game King just barely passes the /375" range. I can't say if it's the cartridge or just a lot of plain good luck. Either way, I'm not complaining.

The 140 AB,s and BT,s are something else for accuracy. Here is three 140 BT,s at nearly 3000FPS.

 Congrats on the rifle buy. Wished it had been a Win or Rem but oh well..the world can't be perfect.

Having said that, I ask why do you refer to the 150 gr ballistic tip as an after thought. Or maybe just the ballistic tip in general....people seem to be treating it like the red headed step child.

After Nosler addressed the issue of varmint weights/mid game sized weights....the ballistic tip has been a fantastic performer. Sure it might be bested by the AccuBond but IMO the Ballistic Tip is above and beyond adequate.

I don't think you can really go wrong with the 130-150's in the 270's. I tend toward the 150's a bit, but I know the 140's shoot excellent as well. If you hunted with the 130 AB's, I think you would have a hard time complaining about them. They are pretty good bullets..
