Anyone use H4831 with Mag Primers in the 270 win

I was looking at Oconnor old load of 62.0 with H4831 with 130's and 59.0 with 150's using WW brass and CCI Mag Primers in his Win 70 in 270 Win.

I use win caps--standard but I have used mags before with no issues.

I just loaded up 5 rounds with 58.0 of H4831SC in 270 win using the 150 BST and Fec 215M primer......if it's not too cold plan on range day Sun.

I use mag primers in some standard loads. I have worked up the same powders over standard and magnum primers on several occasions to see what the differences would be. What I've found is that mag primers generally cause higher start pressures, and in many instances reach max charge weight below standard primers, and at lower velocities. This is not universal, but it is a noticeable trend. In my 30-30WCF, though, mag primers make better velocity and accuracy than standard primers. In my 8x57 (in a 700 Classic Remington) mag primers hit max pressure about 1.5gr below standard primers in just about every powder tried, and velocity is 100fps lower at that charge. Accuracy is better in some loads, worse in others, so that's a wash in that gun.

In my experience, in most cartridges, it depends on the powder being used as to what is the better choice. I don't work up mag primers under stick powders usually, as my results have been either the same or worse with mag primers versus standards in that situation. When I'm using ball powders, sometimes mag primers are a help, and sometimes they are a hindrance. It just all depends on the situation. Drop back and work up to be safe, and post your results, as we can all learn from it.

+1 Dubyam.

I've tried cci 200, cci 250, and win mag primers with the load you mentioned. I get my best accuracy with the standard 200's. WMRP probably yield the highest velocity with that combination.

I've had good luck with the 130's at 60gr, 140's at 57 gr, and 150's around 58-59gr. Your gun may like something different.

The mag primers will work in your 270 Win. Just remember to drop back on the charge weight and work up.
Good choice, the Federal 210 is a good primer. If you can find them, try the GM210M match primers.

I used the CCI 250 when I worked up loads for my 270 because thats what I had on the shelf at the time and didn't feel the need to buy standard primers when the magnums work just as good if not better. Best to experiment, but I didn't really need to. The cci 250 seemed to produce great results with my loads.

I had excellent results with 150g gamekings and 58.5g of RL-22 or H4831 with win cases, and cci 250 mag primer. I was getting 2900-2950fps and 3/4-1 MOA out to 800 yards. Turns the 270 into a decent LR caliber real quick.

I tried H-1000 w/140 and 150 gamekings and ran out of room before I could get velocity up there any. It was about 150fps slower then RL-22 or H4831. It did however produce A LOT better ES, like single digits. Groups were running .75" or so which isn't bad, but the above powders shot .5" and were going faster so thats what I went with.

Your rifle may vary though...Just thought I'd share what little data I remember.
