Well I finally figured out why my 270 shot so well with 140 BT and 7828 then went away! A guy had loaned me a baggy of 140's to try and like magic they shot tiny little groups. I put the gun away for a year or so, happy with the results, but when I decided it was time to get it out, it shot like crap! Every bedding trick I could think of was tried to less than stellar results. I found the remnants of 140 BT's in the baggy and compared them to the new ones-- they were shaped a little different. So I started over and loaded the new ones clear out to just under jamming the lands, now we are on the road to recovery!!!! This particular 700 BDL was made in the late 70's (still new though) and has a full length magazine that you could poke a 300 wby round down in and the leade matches! With the bullets loaded to the best C.O.L. the round looks weird but who cares--? If it shoots! So much for trying to follow someone else on the length.

If it shoots long and is accurate, plus you have plenty of magazine room, have at it. My .257 Roberts has a full length magazine and shoots better long. You get used to the longer shape really quickly, if they are accurate.

It is always gratifying to work out a problem with out rifles. I have a couple that are puzzling me at the moment. Perhaps I should have you take a look at them. Seriously, it sounds as if you have a real gem in that rifle.

I am glad I am not the only one who had that issue, glad you got it back to shooting well!

Glad you figured it out, my 264 WM has a really long throat and just like your 270 the bullets are way out there, looks strange but it works :) Is this your deer load for this fall?

It's very gratifying to get an issue with a rifle or load figured out, congrats on doing as such. Some times we over look some of the simplest stuff thinking it has to be much deeper than that.

I don't know what I"ll do with the 270 yet, but it will be there when needed. I have a couple granddaughters that may want it. I'll get it zero'd all the way in when the weather cools off and may use it for mule deer this year.
