.270 win questions

To second one of the other guys, I was able to get my .270 XL7 below 1 MOA with IMR 4350. I din't have my load info handy, but I was near max per the latest Hornady manual. Bullet was 130 gr. SST.

One of my 270,s likes IMR-4350 and 130 grain sierra flat base bullets as much I like one dozen oreo cookies and a tall glass of milk. I used to run that bullet at 3065 FPS for tack driving accuracy. I can recall a mule deer or two that definitly did not like that load.

As usual, the crew here have nailed it. I've had good luck with the 4350 burn rate in .270s, but also found some keepers with slower burning powders. Work up with all of the above and see what you get.

And, in my experience, even loads that would be considered downright anemic when judged solely by the chronograph still have a singular ability to flatten whitetails. :)

My present .270 Winchester likes 130 grain, Nosler Partition bullets in front of 55.0 grains of IMR 4350 powder with a CCI BR-2 primer and W-W brass. In fact, this load has worked well in every .270 rifle that I have owned. In my 24 inch barrel, Model 70 Winchester, this load chrono's about 3050 fps and is <MOA accurate to 300 yards. This is a fairly hot load and should be worked up to carefully in your particular rifle.

Oldtrader3 that is my exact load  it has been money in the bank:) or meat in the freezer!

Dan, I have owned (4) .270 Winchesters since 1963 and every one of them liked that load of IMR 4350. The .270 Winchester Model 70 (dated 1949) that I use now, I bought in 1973. In fact, I think that I saw this load listed first in a book (JOC?). I think this is one of those "penultimate loads", along with 58.0 grains of H-4831, for the .270 Win, 150 gr bullet that have been around since WWII!

I like load for 130 gr bullets: H4831sc with CCIBR2 primeirs 60.5 gr. It gives me 3000 fps from 22 inch tube. 150 gr Rl-22 with 58gr and G215 Mag primer gets me in 2900 pfs. All loads usually about 1 inch or less at 100 yards. I think H4831sc gives me extra 25 fps over regular H4831 powder.

Good in my rifle but it might be too hot in another rifle.
