Got out with my dad to go shoot the new gun smell off his custom rifle.
Loads were as follows:
Nosler brass
Federal 215 primer
RL33
Berger 195gr
COAL 3.69"
Started at 87.6 grains and worked up to 88.5 grains.
Gun shoots like a dream....Nathan's beast brake works awesome and recoil is about the equivalent of a 243.
Got it sighted in and then started shooting groups over the chrony. Mostly looking for what the groups showed and trying to find what the max load was in the rifle. We didn't find max today....
87.6 showed just under an inch group and ran 3043, 3043 & 3032 fps. (Bottom group in pic)
88gr was almost identical in grouping and ran 3045, 3060 & 3060 fps. (Group on the left dot)
88.2gr started to look promising....2 touching and one just out. They ran 3063, 3069 & 3067 fps. (Group on the right dot)
88.5gr also looks promising. Dad shanked the first shot pretty bad but the next two were touching. Velocity was 3101, 3133 & 3105 fps. (Group on the top dot)
I'm thinking there is a good accuracy node somewhere between 88.2 and 88.8. Never showed any signs of pressure on the brass or in the bolt lift.
Loaded some extra of the 87.6 load so we could play with the steel at the range. Here's some videos. The look on dad's face when he went from sighted in straight to 1000 yards was priceless.
Even ran it out to a rock face at the back of the range at 1112 yards.....picked a spot and first round hit. It was freaking awesome!
