280 Ackley....waaaaaay out there.

A few years back, due to the sale of the land joining mine, I lost my 1,200 yard firing range...had been shooting there for over 30 years, then POOF, it was gone...I've joined 3 different gun ranges trying to get a place to be able to shoot at least 600 yards, they were all very crude and rough to use...I stayed a member of one range (Cherokee Rod & Gun) just because the folks are so nice to be around (I've discovered I enjoy shooting with others) and its close to home, but their range is only 300 yards (and only in the fall/winter...200 yards the rest of the time).

My hunting buddy just called and gave me the best news I've had in a while...the land next to my uncles place that we hunt on is now open to us, we've been working on getting this for a few years now and it finally happened...all we gotta do is the upkeep on the fences (same thing we do for my uncle).

I just took some measurements on Google Maps...there is a shooting lane that is 1,777 yards long, its not flat, but point A and point B are pretty much at the same level, with nice spots for a few targets at shorter ranges along the way....looks like I'll be able to stretch the Ackleys legs after all.

This is gonna be fun!!!

Yes sir it is!

Looks like 1,600 yards is about all the Ackley will do...goes subsonic past that...Ha, I reckon thats far enough, lol...300 yards farther than I've ever shot so far.

The 160 AB runs out of gas at about 1,400...

I just remembered...my scope (Zeiss HD5) only has enough adjustment for about 1,000 yards...I'm not changing scopes, this is after all a hunting rifle...first and foremost.

Oh well...it'll still be fun!

I can get out to about 1100 yards on my block but 450 is as far as I've gone. I never hunt at ranges further than that. I have some friends that like to ring steel out to one kilometre though.
