Hey Guys,

I finally got around to testing the .280 AI Nosler Factory ammo. All I can say is...unbelievable!!

The group pictured below was shot at 100yds and is literally the first three rounds I fired!

JD,

This rifle is a late model Kenny J. "Coupe De Mort" #76 of 100. (I picked the gun up last year, lightly used, at 1/3rd of its original cost and then had Rissa and her brother fix the very few minor cosmetic issues that I felt needed to be addressed. Additionally, I had them add a green splatter paint to the stock to make it a "swamp pie" coloration and had a thread protector machined as I really have no need for the break that was installed.)

Very nice!

So what are you going to shoot with the 17 rounds left in the box?
Do you have a hunt planned?

Thanks JD,

I will be hunting with my friends from Modern Muzzloader.com. It will be myself, a few other moderators, and our friend that owns the site.
As you can imagine all of the guys are great individuals to hunt with and I am sure we will all have an excellent trip regardless of our succes or potential lack thereof...

The way that thing shoots... There should be right around 17 great bucks from the rest of that box!

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to let everyone know the ammo performed flawlessly. While the buck I took certainly did not have very high scoring antlers for the area I was hunitng, it was the largest buck in terms of body size of any taken in our group. (Much larger than two other bucks scoring over 130".)

At the shot the buck attempted to jump only to find itself flipping head over heals! The Buck fell dead less than 5ft from where it was hit. The front shoulder was smashed and the heart was reduced to about 60% of its live size.

The first of two does I shot was taken while stalking and the shot was taken off shooting sticks, at slightly over 100yds, while we were both standing in thick Texas brush. The bullet smashed though several small branches and twigs in the last 25yds before it hit the doe yet still hit her perfectly behind the shoulder. She proceeded to run less than 40yds before falling dead.

The second doe was shot at about 30yds, from an offhand position. While I did hit her a little low the bullet smashed both legs. She "wheelbarrow ed" through the cactus's where she died less than 25 yds later.

Beautiful rifle, great shooting on the deer and WoW!! on the Nosler Custom ammo. Sweet indeed.

Thanks for the kind words guys!!!

I must say I was very happy to have arrived on the trip so well equipped. What I thought was going to be a simple whitetail hunt turned out to be something of a mini-safari.

My possible shots on game ranged from deer, to coyotes, to bobcats, to hogs, to sand hill cranes. Additionally, shot opportunities ranged from a few yards, out past 1000yds. Light conditions on shot opportunities ranged from mid day...quite literally until your glass gave out.

Despite all of this, perhaps what will make this one of the most memorable trips in my life, regardless of what I do in the future, is the fact that circumstances placed me with an opportunity to live and hunt with a true proffessional hunter as my personal guide. If it were not for a good bit of luck on both our parts I literally could never have even afforded to hunt with a gentleman of his caliber, (the majority of his hunts start in the deep five figure range and often end well into the sixes  .)

This past week likely taught me more in five days than I could have learned in five years on my own...and for that I am extremely grateful!!!

Below is a picture I took of my guide with the buck I harvested for his album. (Incredible to realize that a small whitetail trophy seemed to interested him as much some of the great horned animals of africa and southest asia!!)

That is a nice buck! Maybe not record book but pretty, and big. Those Cloverleaf groups are fun huh?!! CL

As we headed back to Abilene with a beautiful woman driving a truck sporting stickers "size matters" it put into perspective the difference between hunting Texas and the Midwest!

No doubt about it....If you want mass...head north...if you want ridiculously long tines...hit Texas! (just don't forget where you are before pulling the trigger)

I also have a 280 Ackley Improved shooting 100yard groups as pictured. You all know how human we are and I was questioning the AccuBond bullet? After reseaching though I'm going to say I will use my 280 Ackley Improved for everything up to Elk and Bear and have 100% confidence in the bullet out to 300 yards !!!! The rifle , scope , ammo combo is as perferct as one would desire as long as the hunter and his skills do their part !!! I am looking to go to Canada on a Black Bear hunt with this and have the utmost confidence it'll put the smackdown on em !!!!

Nice bucks! The 280 AI with the 140 gr AB is working perfectly, congratulations.
