I am looking forward to bringing home game this fall with my new RMR in the 280AI. So many of the the forum members have talked so highly of them that I know that I made the right choice 8)!
The 284 is almost the perfect calibre in my humble opinion.

Blessings,
Dan

However, it will take a year of more to get Dan to come down off his high after that compliment. :?

When I had the new barrel put on, I almost went to a 280AI, but for some reason decided not too.

Good luck with the new stick.

Doc, you know me to well . I have had two rifles made and both of them have been made on the recommendation of a good Reverend that I have had the good fortune to meet & call a friend.
The guys here are always will to help mostly in spending each other money 8)!

PS. Friday morning is the date for the break in of the new little Lady:))!!
Blessings,
Dan

I bought a Ruger Hawkeye in 280 Remington two years ago and harvested my last two deer with it. I've been shooting 150 grain bullets in it only because the first load I made with Ballistic tips shot decently.
The. Last year, the SPS had some E-tips on sale so I got a chance to try them out on a buck.
Looking forward to a report on how the 140 grain Noslers do and also curious what OAL you settle on with these.

The 280 Remington / 280AI is an awesome round. My .280 I had loved IMR4350 with the 140 gr. Nosler Partition. I tried a little H4831SC and it liked that also, but my IMR4350 was so good I just stuck with it. I cannot wait to get my hands on my new toy when it is finished up. I haven't called to pester my gunsmith yet to see if the barrel is here or not..

On my 3rd 280 Rem. Love the cartridge!

Finally have a custom LH model. Used the Rem 700 XCR action. Have the XCR and a LSS stock for it, both pillar and glass bedded.
Shoots 140 gr AB's less than moa.

Need to get a load worked up with the 150 gr LRAB's.
Will use the good Dr.'s load data to start
(or the good reverend's, which ever you may prefer!!! LOL)

Either works, so long as you remember that I'm "good."

Sweet, looking forward to your results with the 280.. Seems to be a flurry of them around here lately!

I noticed that "flurry" too...being part of it and all...

I'm thinking maybe the day has finally come the 280's (both flavors) can finally enjoy the attention they deserve...

The round is right there with the 30-06 in terms of versatility...has ballistic advantages over both the 270 and 30-06 (however slight, they are there), and with the right bullets the Ackley version hits like a 300 Win Mag factory load...lots of downrange power...the standard version is no slouch either.

I've always been a person who likes "optimal"....and I've always believed a .284 bullet in an 06 case is just that, optimal for the capacity.

Looking forward to my 280 Ackley...like a kid waiting on Christmas.

With all of the .280 talk ,i had to take mine out of the safe to reverify my load.My hunting load has always been 140gr BT w 59.0gr of RL-19 and WLR Primer. This load has done well in the past, this was from 100yds today at the bench . Breezy 70 degrees F.Rifle is an older Remington mountain rifle w 22inch barrel.2963 fps.Lee

I'd say it was all set!! The Remington Mountain Rifle is what my .280 was in also. Loved that rifle. My load with IMR4350 chronographed about what your load does, 2940 fps for me. Great cartridge and nice shooting.

I'd say you're good to go, Lee. That is a fine load. Sounds as if you and the 280 are on familiar terms. Seems that everyone that owns one speaks well of it.

Thanks Gerry and Dr.Mike, the .280 Remington is my all time favorite cartridge. This particular rifle was made in 1988 and is what Big Green was known for. Lee

The .280 will deliver the goods, that's for sure. Here's a group from one of my newer .280's with a 140 grain E-Tip.

Here is the performance spanning a load spectrum with Swift 140 grain A-Frame.

Here is performance in my older .280 with 140 grain BST. Performance with 139 grain Hornady SP and 139 grain Hornady GMX is similar in that rifle.

DrMike, you sure can't complain about those loads  there are not a lot of people in these parts that use the 280 :(. The 280 is a very well kept secret that shouldn't be :)!

Blessings?
Dan
