I'm going try some 160 gr Sierra gamekings in my 280 Rem tomorrow with H4831SC and debating how deep too seat the bullet to start? I've got 5 rounds Loaded with an overall length of 3.290. Anyone have any suggestions to try in the future?

I start most hunting bullets .007" of the lands, even though general concensus is .010" or more,,,, check magazine fit. I adjust from there. But long throats can be a issue, so magazine is your rule there. Manuals are mostly are generally guide, and will vary from one to the other slighty.
Different mfg's. designs and various ogives are different, therfore each rifle and load has it's own rules. Again, manuals are generalities, due to all the variables involved.

Same here. Dave nailed it. .010 off or mag length. Work up most accurate powder charge and tweak seating depth. Good luck..

I'll start at .010 and go from there. The O.A.L with the BT in this rifle is 3.300 I was just wondering if a heavier bullet required a deeper depth?

It depends on how your rifle is throated. On my custom 280AI I had the ability to do some customizing my throat on that is at 3.44" SAMMI is 3.34" I chose that because I'm primarily gonna be shooting 140 and 160 AB and that's just seated in the neck to maximize case capacity.

I went ahead and loaded 5 rounds with 51 gr of H4831SC with an O.A.L of 3.290 and another 5 rounds with 52.5 gr of RL-22 and an O.A.L of 3.285. I decided to start low and work my way up from there. I won't be able to see how they do till next weekend, I forgot the range is closed this weeken because of a big trap shoot they're having this weekend.
