Try these loads in your 280 Rem. They both shoot sub .5 MOA for me.

140 gr 57.0 grs RL19

160 gr 54.0 grs IMR4831

Remember to start low and work up.

That was my load in my Win Lightweight 280Rem.- Rl19-57gr, NoslerBT140gr.- For sure worked great in my 280- Rl19 is the powder!

I like RL-19 for the '06 based cartridges. The number #5 Nosler manual also lists RL-19 as the most accurate powder for the 140 and 160 grain bullets.

The load that works the best for me out of my 280 is the 140 AccuBond with Fed 210 primers and 58.5 gns H4831. This shoots consistently for me in the .5 - .6's.

My wifes ruger M77 in 280 likes 57 grs of RL 19 with 140 gr pts it will shoot groups you can cover with a dime with change left over and that was out of the box no modifications. :grin:

Welcome to the forum.

You are going to love the 280 Rem. The 140 gr AB is just about the perfect bullet for all around hunting. RL19 is a good powder choice but also look at RL22, IMR4831, and H4831. Std large rifle primers will work well.
What are you going to hunt with your 280 Rem?

57.0grs of Viht N-165 & 150grn Silver-Tips shoot half inch and under out of mine.
As JD stated, you'll love that .280 if you just got it.

"Plan" on taking my first elk with it :lol: If that doesn't happen then hopefully a whitetail or two here in Va.

I was thinking about working up some 160 grain AB loads for elk and debating on my whitetail load. Noticed that Nosler had the solid base 160 grain bullets on sale and also thought about the Hornady 160 interlock SST. Have had great luck with them in my .308win.

I just bought a Ruger 77 MKII .280rem used but in great condition. Realized I did not have a bolt action in my inventory, actually has been quite awhile since I did have one. I shoot mostly single shots.

The 160 gr AB is a great all around bullet and can be used for elk and deer. Try 54.0 grs IMR4831, should get you where you want to be. :wink:

Typically guys rave about how great 160's shoot out of their 280s. I am a 140 AccuBond addict and I just cannot bring myself to try much anything else in the 280 or 270. BUT if I was going to try something for elk size game the 160 would be the 1st place I'd go.

Can't comment on the Accubonds, but my 280 shoots the 140 Partitions inside 1" consistently with both R-22 and AA-3100. I've tried about everything in that range of burn rate, H-4831, R-19, even IMR-7828. The R-22 and AA-3100 perform best with my 26" barrel. Not much difference between the two.

My 280 loves the 160grNP & NAB over 57gr of IMR7828. It's a custom job w/ very thin 23" bbl. & it will stay under 1moa all day. This load give me just over 2800fps, plenty flat shooting for me.

Here is what 160gr Accubonds do thru my .280 Rem CDL... 2900 fps from my 24" bbl

57.5 gr of RE 22 or 53.5 gr of IMR 4831

The 160 gr AB is a great all around bullet. I shot my personal best this past summer with this bullet in my 280AI, .092".
