Hi forum!
I have a Rem 700 on the way to do a new build with and I want to do a 280AI. I think Pac-Nor will do the barrel. I've been considering a 26" super match, 3 groove. I want to shoot 140&160 Accubonds and the 168 Berger. This is planned to be a long range deer and goat gun. I'm thinking 1 in 9 or possibly 1 in 10 twist - what do you all think would be a wise choice?
Thanks,
Scott

Nosler uses 1-9 twist. With 26 inch tube it can weight a bit?
I like 7 lb plus scope. Total about 8.5lb

I built mine on a savage 110. I used a 24" flute stainless supermatch #4 3 groove pac nor. Scoped up ready to hunt in a mcswirly stock it weighs 8.25 lbs. I went with a 1:9 twist, and it shoots the 140 bt into .3" groups at 3175.

2" extra wouldn't of made it .5 lbs heavier I don't think.

I'm wanting to say 2.25 lbs, but I can't remember. It was a tad lighter than the stock wood one.

Most standard fill McMillans go 30 to 32 ounces or thereabouts.

FWIW a 9 twist is what Pac Nor recommends if you plan on shooting .284 cal 160's in their 3 groove barrels.

Sounds like a great build; good luck!

I'd stick with the 1:9 twist, as it will stabilize long, heavy bullets for long-range shooting.

Me also, especially if you are going to shoot the Berger 168 gr bullets which have a long ogive.
