I found some .284 ABLR bullets at the LGS (150 g and 168 g). I loaded up some of the 150 g bullets for my .280 to see what they might do. I believe they are promising. I don't know that I will be able to use them in the next week for moose, but you can never tell. Elk is coming up in about ten days, however.

They look quite attractive.

They give acceptable groups for the first try. These were seated 0.050 inches off the lands.

So Dr. Mike, I am curious. Which powder charge do you work with? Or do you work with all three powder charges?

Mike that is a great start the 60.0grs looks like it has real potential! What powder are you using?

Blessings,
Dan

I run a spectrum of charges to test pressure on an unknown bullet. These were made up with N560. I selected that powder on the basis of similar bullet profiles and past experience.

Mike, I'm thinking you retest that 60.0 grain load and go put an elk or moose on the ground for us! Dang, seems like they came together pretty quick! Very nice. They do look quite sharp in that sleek 280 case!

Oh, what kinda speeds were you getting Mike?

3033 +/- 12 fps with 60.0 grains of VN560.

Jeeze! That's a darned nice load right there! Man, talk about coming together quick....

That's not too far behind my WSM with the 150...

That looks to be close to a very good load, a 150 gr ABLR at over 3000 fps is a great load.

Nicely done Doc!
A little TLC with the COL and you should have a DRT elk! :)

Dr. Mike, nice job at a rapid rate.
The 280Rem with that sort of bullet is, after all, the sexiest of all cartridges. I like it's slender, curvy, length and the way the light reflects off it's round, firmness. <8^))

This load came together quickly, to be certain. I will be playing with OAL sometime in the coming couple of weeks. This load will likely accompany me afield for elk and moose (if I don't connect with a moose this week).

Mike,

That load is better than MOM, (Minute of Moose). No reason why you couldn't use it this week while hunting with Noah.

I'm working on a load to tote. My problem is that I only have one or two more days to hunt before I am compelled to take a break for a week. Since I'm up at three each morning and out the door, it doesn't leave much time to load. Likely, this will be used for elk this coming month.
