Looking for a 06 load with 4350 or 4895 anyone have any advice or direction to point me would appreciate it.

H4350 has been my go to powder in the 06. Can't be much help beyond that, as I only shoot NPT's in it. That, and my chambers are cut with longer throats, being single shots. But H4350 always seemed to me very good accuracy.

An excellent article, Getting the most out of your .30-06, by John Barsness:

http://www.24hourcampfire.com/newsletters/May_2009.html

My son and I go with 57 or 58 grains of H4350 and my choice of various 165 gr bullets. Works out to decent velocity and good accuracy. The bucks and the bear were pretty impressed with that combo too.

There's quite a few 165 gr bullet tests posted up in the bullet test section too. Worth a look. Mine were done with both the .308 Win and the .30-06, but they were loaded so close to the same velocity that there's no real difference. I put a 165 B-Tip through a small buck last year, dropping him instantly. My son shot a bigger buck with the 165 Solid Base, dropping him with a spine shot, then sending a second through the heart & lungs. Both deer died quickly, with excellent results. I was using the .308, he had the .30-06 rifle.

My gun is a 1975 vintage Rem 700 with 22" factory barrel, the following is my load info.

165 Ballistic Tip
Win. Cases, re-sized
59.0- H4350 Powder
CCI-250 Primer

This load has been Chronographed at 2840 fps and has produced .442 groups several times for me at 100 yds. The load is very consistent and uniform. Any of the 165 Nosler Bullets gives the 30-06 plenty of killing power. Just match the bullet to the particular Game you are hunting.

As always, work the load up slowly watching for pressure signs.

Good luck,
Don

My current barrel looks like it likes 55.6 to 56.0 grains of IMR4350, Lapua case, CCI primer, with 165/168s.

My old barrel liked similar components, but with 57.5 or 57.6 grains of the IMR4350.

All rounds 3.320 inches OAL.

Must be a tighter bore in the new barrel?

I only use the IMR4350 because I still have 7 lbs of it left. I'll be switching to H4350 after it's gone.

Good luck!

My standard 30/06 load with the 165gr bullet; 58.5-58.8 IMR-4350, WLR or 210M, any case.Rick.

My -06 likes H4350 under 168gr BTs. I've been using WLR primers but will be testing CCI and Fed shortly, as I am out of WLRs. Work up from about 54gr to max for your rifle which should be somewhere at or below 59gr. Mine likes 59 on the nose, and gives me 2930fps +/- out of a 24" barrel, and prints sub-half-minute groups out to 200yds. That's as far as I've tested it up to this point.

57.4 grs. with IMR 4350, Winchester brass, Federal 210 primer, and either the 165 gr. AccuBond or the Partition. My OAL with the Partition in a Remington 700 and my #1B both liked them at 3.375 OAL. I seated the Accubonds w/o adjusting the depth and leaving it as set for the Partitions and it worked. They area tad longer, but shoot just as well.

That is a pretty awesome load and hard not to like.

Agreed!!!!

I know this isn't what you asked but have you thought about RL-17. I have had great results with it and the 168grBT and 168gr TTSX, both under 0.5MOA @ a little over 2800fps out of my savage 30-06

I had good luck with the 165 gr PT and 57.0 grs IMR 4350.

Thanks for the input guys. I got a starting point to work from now I'll put an update up once I get something done.

I have been using the same load of IMR 4350 with the .30-06 and 165 Partitions for about 45 years. This load is: 57.5 grains IMR 4350, BR-2 primers, 165 Nosler Partitions, W-W cases (usually nickel flash). Velocity (mean) is 2860 fps. This load will shoot under MOA in my present Model 70 Win, .30-06 to 300 yards and beyond. Load also works great for 168 CT Ballistic Tips.

Group shown was three shot group at 100 yards.

+1 and who says a 30-06 cannot shoot little bitty groups? That's a dandy group. Scotty B sure needs a 30-06!

Thanks guys, I had a group from that same .30-06 which was about twice that size (5/8 inch) which I shot at 300 yards but I can't find it at the moment. I never have been able to bring myself to sell that rifle? So, I just put 1-piece bottom metal and a Grade II stock on it to keep!

That's a superb group, Charlie. I guess you wouldn't sell that rifle--not with it giving you that performance.
