Got some 180 gr Nosler Partition protected points to try in the 30-06
Tried 3 powders I have so far in order the best was 56 gr of Imr 4831
then 59gr of 7828ssc then 55gr of H4350
Shooting a Remington model 700 24inch barrel with a COAL of 3.330
CCI 200 primers and Remington brass.
Im leaning towards IMR 4831 and 7828 for those are the 2 powders I have most of.
Was wondering if any one could show some quick load data for those powders.
Thanks for your time

Sorry to be a bother but is there any way to break it down just for IMR 4831, and 7828ssc
those will be the ones I will be using.
Thanks for your time

Got some 180 gr Nosler Partition protected points to try in the 30-06
Tried 3 powders I have so far in order the best was 56 gr of Imr 4831
then 59gr of 7828ssc then 55gr of H4350
Shooting a Remington model 700 24inch barrel with a COAL of 3.330
CCI 200 primers and Remington brass.
Im leaning towards IMR 4831 and 7828 for those are the 2 powders I have most of.
Was wondering if any one could show some quick load data for those powders.
Thanks for your time

stew,

Anyone of the 4350s would be a better choice for full power 180/30-06 reload.
Tell me again why you want to use the other 2?

Hey Ray
I have used IMR 4831 with the Speer 180 gr BTSP for years with good results.
I am open to the H4350 as well and would like to see the data for it as well with the Nosler. Its just I have more IMR 4831 and 7828ssc on hand then the H4350 and trying to save it for the 280 and 7mm-08. Plus the little bit of testing I have done should better groups with the other 2 powders so far.
Thanks

It looks as though you couldn't possibly get enough 7828 in a .30-06 case to get into trouble.

I personally have no fear of pushing the .30-06 beyond SAAMI pressure specs, but you might possibly get into trouble with IMR4831.

I use 55 grains of IMR 4451 (very similar to 4350's) with 180 grain Accubonds. It is a great load doesn't copper up.

56.5 grains with the 150 Partitions is a good lighter weight oad.

A little unsolicited advice...you won't get a good burn with 7828 and your velocity spreads are likely going to be all over the place. Smokeless powder is meant to operate at certain pressures and when pressures are low, performance generally suffers. Using a burn rate that's too slow can even be dangerous, and the risk of ringing the barrel is always there.

I currently am working on a .30-06 with 180 Partitions myself, and if I had H4350 on hand, that's what I'd be using. Unfortunately, it seems to be generally unavailable.

56-57 gr IMR 4350 work wonderfully with the 180. I prefer 57gr myself. I also prefer H4350 and then you are looking at 57-57,5, with a standard primer of course. IMR 4831 will work, yes, but as mentiuoned, be very watchful for early pressure signs. 7828 will 'work but is "better with 200+gr bullets. I like R15 for that over 7828. R22 is also another great powder for 200+ bullets. Just enjoy yourself, but be careful and you will do fine! :)

You can sooner get in trouble with the 4350s than the 4831s, but the potential is there with both.

Thanks for the info guys, I loaded up a few more with the IMR 4831 at 56 gr and will see how it groups again for it was the best accuracy so far.
I have the IMR 7828ssc for the 338 and 7mm mag , the Nosler site showed a load for it with the 180 gr bullet in the 30-06 and have a bit of it so this is why I tried it, it did fairly well. I have the least of the H4350 and only got to 55 gr so looks like I could go higher and it may help the accuracy for as of now it was the worst but was trying to save it for the 280 and 7mm-08. I am on a list for more H4350 when it shows up so
can try more then when/if it arrives.
River rider would be interested how your load tests go with this bullet when you finish.
Thanks

Stew, although I prefer H4350 for the .30-06 & 180's, I've used IMR 4831 with complete satisfaction. Good groups and reasonable velocity.

Good enough for me!

You ought to be able to scoot that 180 out at around 2700 - 2800 fps with good accuracy using your 4831. That's typical .30-06 performance, and good enough for most anything walking North America I'd suspect.

I never tried 7828 in the .30-06, though I used it in a couple of different magnum cartridges.

Regards, Guy

I'm an H4831 man myself. 59-60grs with a 180 gets me 2737fps, excellent accuracy and low spreads. I've read many places that you can't get enough H4831 in an /06 case to get in trouble.

I use 4350 but not in my /06's.

Thanks guys

I've shot this load for years, it's a slammer on our TN whitetails

And shooting like that from a Ruger.....everyone knows Rugers aren't accurate........ :)

Bwa Ha Ha!

From Tennessee and has a sense of humor! Too Cool! (y)

Rugers shoot very well anymore.
