30-06 + varget + 125g. Balistic Tips + WATER JUGS = YES!

Now that is something I do want to see picture of!

Water jugs are SO COOL! Went to the range today to test my 30-06 125g balistic tip against my 257 WBY 115g balistic tips. I beleive that the 30-06 has the slight advantage! Both bullets made it into the 4th jug at 25 yards. Here are a few pictures.
I figure if a 115g 25 cal works well, why not use a 125g 30 cal?

Very impressive!!!!!!

how much weight did the 30 cal bullet lose?
I'm guessin it now weighs 82 grains...

good show, man!!!

I weighed and measured the bullets for expansion and here is what I ended up with.. The 125g 30 cal bullet weighed 62.1g and measured .678". It retained 49.6% of its original weight. The 115g 25 cal bullet weighed 51.2g and measured .599". It retained 44% of its original weight. I am very pleased with these results at just 25 yards. Weatherbys published velocity with its factory loads (witch I was using) is 3400 ft/sec. I estimate that my load of 55.5g varget is pushing that 30 cal somewhere around 3250 ft/sec. I should mention that I weighed the separated lead core of the 257 with the copper jacket because they were in the 4th jug together. The total weight of the two pieces was 51.2g.

The water jugs didn't hold up very well

I also shot a 25cal 120g Partition from my 257 WBY and a 22cal 60g Partition from my 223 WSSM. I was not disappionted! The 25 cal bullet stopped between jug #5 and#6. It weighed 75.5g (retained 62% of its original weight) and expanded to .543". The little 22cal Partition was found in the 4th jug. It weighed 43.6g (retained 72% of its original weight) and expanded to .433". The partitions are great too!

I only wish I could get them to group better out of my 223 WSSM! 4" groups is not good enough for me.

That little thing held onto it's core at 3200 fps! Outstanding!

I have some that I'll load for my 06 and 300 WSM this year. I'm hoping to find accurate loads around 2800 fps. Thanks to posts like this I have no problems hunting blacktail with em.

Really appreciate the sharing bbearhntr.
