Well, I picked up some Leverevolution powder today and since I had a decent sized box of 170gr Sierra bullets for the 30-30, I loaded them up today with a few different charges to see what the 30-30 likes and to see if it really offers anything over other powders. I used some CCIBR2 primers and some Winchester cases I had stockpiled on the bench, for just such an occasion. I don't plan on getting too crazy with this rifle, as it is just a Williams peep sight on it, so I am not looking for a new prairie dog rifle, just something fun to goof off with while at the range. If I can get my hands on some of the 170gr Nosler PT 2nds, well, that would be great too.

With the results Guy showed me, I don't see too much need with getting fancy and don't expect to beat the factory loads much, but I like to load, so I did.

I do however really miss the Lee Factory Crimp Die, once you use that, it is hard to go back to anything else. So I ordered one for the 30-30 and one for the 35 Rem. I also added a bag of 200gr Rem CLRN's in my cart for that load development. I am going to try the Leverevolution powder in that also. If it works, should be a cool whitetail set up. Wished I could get SilverTips as components, but oh well. It will be fun shooting the 30-30 and 35 Rem at the range since they are pretty low recoil and won't cost too much to shoot.

On another note, that Leverevolution powder goes through a measure like water. Similar to W748 or any other ball powder. Should make loading a little slicker not having to check every single load. Anyhow, I will get some targets up shortly after I get to the range. Should of went today, but the boy and I were goofing off together... Scotty

Scotty,

Sounds like you are going to well with both the 30-30 and the 35 Rem.
I am kinda partial to the Remington SPCL bullets, they work very well at these velocities. They also have a cool look factor with the scalloped jacket.
Looking forward to your range report.

From reading in the new Hodgdon's manual they stress not deviating in any way from their load data with LVR powder. The 200 gr Rem. RNCL are made for higher velocity than what you can get out of a 30-30 Win for good expansion on game. If you are shooting them in a leaver gun you are going to run into problems. They are too long. If you seat them so they will work through the action then you have a bunch of the base of the bullet down in the case taking up your powder room plus you would truly have to use the Lee Factory Crimp Die because the crimp groove will be down inside the case. If you are going after critters that a 170 gr Nosler Partition out of your 30-30 Win will not handle you need to get more gun.

After reading JD338 post I now understand that the 200 gr Rem RNCL were for the 35 Rem. Oh I see! said the blind man.
