I am wanting to reload some hunting loads for my 300 rum and was wanting to use the AccuBond 150g. I will be shooting whitetail and hopefully elk in the next year or so. What would be a good powder and amount of powder to use for this type load? Anything I need to know tell me about it.

Thanks,
Kyle

I haven't tried the 150s, I feel the 165 gr bullet is better at the speed you can push them with a RUM. My RUM has a 28" barrel and I am getting 3500fps with 90grs of RL22.Rick.

Thanks for the reply. That would work fine, but are you using the accubonds or what bullet?

Thanks,
Kyle

I think you would be better off served using the 200g version at 3100-3200. That will supercede the 150g in everything past about 300 yards. It will hammer elk and wont have a chance of breaking up. The 150g at 3600+ is just to much stress. The 300 RUM really shines with bullets of at least 180g. Especially a good high BC bullet in the 200-220 range. They are killers out to and past 1k. With the 200g you will also not have to worry about any angle. That bullet will flat penetrate.

Thanks for the replies. Remington I went ahead and got the 180 AB's I think for mainly whitetail that will be plenty of bullet? I also got the H1000 powder and will probably try 96 grains like it says on the can.
How does that all sound?

kpk,

180 gr AB is a good choice for WT Deer and Elk.
If H1000 doesen't work, try RL25.

JD do you think the H1000 will be ok? I looked for RL25 at 2 different places and couldn't find it. Next to that H1000 was recommended. If that won't work as good I can return and get RL25.

kpk,

Since you have H1000, give it a try. Every rifle is unique and even identical rifles can have certain load preferences. If you are not happy with your test results, give RL25 a try.
You will find like many of us that the longer you reload, the more components you will end up with.
I have been reloading for over 30 years so I have a good "selection" of powder and bullets.

I think you made a good choice by going with the 180 over the 150 for sure. H-1000 is a powder I would recommend. I have used nothing but that in my 300 RUM to develop loads for well over 8 bullets from 125g to 220g. I have gotten under .5 moa accuracy and good velocity, 3200fps from 200g bullets. Got some 3.5" and 4" groups at 800 with H-1000. If that does not work, try Retumbo or RL-25.

For your 180g AB I would suggest starting at 94g. I had great accuracy at 96g with a 180g Combined tech Btip. Was getting 3380fps as well.

I concur! But if you must try 95 or so grains of RL22 or 98 gr of RL 25.

PLEASE work up from 10% below! Should see 3600 fps or so!

I got 3650fps from the 150g CTBT and 105g of H-1000. MAX for my rifle. Gave .3" at 100 yards, and gave several 4" groups at 800 yards. Was my coyote load for a while, I WOULD NEVER use that bullet on deer, unless it was about 400 yards or farther. Impact velocity would have to be kept down.

I have a picture here of a 180 grain Partition gold that was shot out of my 300 ultra at 3450 fps that went through both shoulders of a bison my brother shot in Northern British columbia. It opened up to .567 of an inch and still weighs 152 grains. It is the most perfectly mushroomed bullet I have ever seen. It was found on the hide on the far side. The buffalo was shot at 70 yards. I would definatly recomend loading these for elk, moose and bear. I am using 94 grains of hodgdon retumbo.
