Is any one shooting a 300rum and using a 200 gr bullet that is going faster than 3100 fps ,if so what powder are you using and how much ?

I shooting 200 grain Accubonds using IMR 7828 and RL 25 and exceeding that speed. I am flattening primers with the IMR and cratering them with the RL 25. I am over the the max with both powders. Get the manual and start low and work up. I know you didnt want to hear that

The saami max is set for a little under 65K psi for the 300 RUM.
The below loads are spot on and I know because I have reloaded for at least 15 RUMS in the 300. This is where it gets tricky. There is some phenomenally strong brass available in the Rums and even though most are way in the red, pressures are not showing. 3150 or so is max in a 26" barrel with a 200 grain. I have seen people claim 3250 but honestly that is ridiculously not safe! This is why the 30-378 does about 3250 before pressures show, so how can the RUM do the same with way less capacity. TINSTAAFL?
Pop,
This is a new era! "YES WE CAN"

I would offer for your consideration: A 200gr. bullet at 3100 fps. aint too shabby for most things without a REX behind it's name.
If the caliber isn't enough I'm looking for a 3000RUM.
Good Hunting
Elkhunt

Here is my load for my 300RUM:
Brass: R-P (all trimmed to 2.83")
Primer: GM215M
Bullet: 200AB
Powder: 95gn of Retumbo
COL: 3.635"
Ave FPS: 3137

Yes, I'm doing it with a case full of very slow non-canister powder.
As Pop said, most commercial powders are too fast to safely do this.
We are getting a little over 3200 in a 26" bbl.

Retumbo, using Hodgdon's published load data.

It'll get you to 3150 and beyond. Heck, I clocked some Remington ammo, factory loaded w/200 gr Nosler Partitions at just slightly under 3200 fps - and a few rounds were just over that. This was from a 26" Remington barrel. Woke me right up!

Perfect.....

As far as hot rodding a load, I remember being called down to a local gunsmith to look at a rifle. What he had was a Model 700 Remington that had been made into a 340 wby with one lug broken off the bolt! He showed me some fired cases that had been reloaded several times as evidenced by the shiney ejecter marks for every reload. What if both had broken at the same time? Grab a piece of metal and start bending it back and forth and it will eventually break, this happens to the bolt lugs with high pressure loads! I used to not pay a lot of attention to light marks on brass until this, NEVER AGAIN!

I sold my 30-378 today, in favor of a 300 RUM. Not sure if it was smart, yet we`ll see. It would do 3265 with 104 grns of Retumbo and leave a slight extractor mark with 105 and no difference in velocity from Norma brass. I could go more with weatherby, just had 100 cases that were Norma and a box and a half that were Wby.
I reduced to a deadly accurate 3150 with 101 grns of Retumbo and the holes were touching at 100yds if I let the barrel cool for 5 minutes between shots 2 and 3.

If I didn`t it would walk over 0.75`and open the group up to an inch. I shot WT deer " 300yds with that load, impact speed of 2750FPS, very effective and controlled expansion. Went thro ribs 3&4 from the back, thro the lungs into the spine and traveled thro the spine for 16-18 inches thro the hind quarter and shattered the femur and bullets leaving a shotgun like wound channel and exiting. Didn`t recover any bullet fragments, just bonemeal and shreaded tissue.

JT.

+1 w/POP !

I've used RL-25 & Retumbo along with some N-165.
This is the first gun I've had that I've seen issues with listed book max loads. Nosler #6 Max I can't use with Retumbo & the 200grainers....

NOT BAD HUH?

The big .30's are terrific game takers... They can produce some great results.

Do be careful though guys...
