Need Help, I just recently had a gun built in 300 WBY 26" #4 Hart Barrel and Brown Precision Stock, topped off with a Swarovski 4x12x50 TDS Scope! My main use will be Elk & Mule Deer for this gun. I want to be able to go out to 500 to 600 yds if needed on either animal and insure retrivel. Can anyone recoomend a Noslar load/bullet :?: that will perform well for me? I would appreciate some feedback! Thanks

I would use the 200g AB. It will have the energy and penetration to smack elk both close and far. I used the 200g AB in my 300 RUM at 3200fps to take a few elk, one at 512 yards and another couple between 200-400. The bullet always left about 3-4" exit hole and the elk didn't go far. I would look at IMR-7828, RL-22, and H1000, maybe Retumbo for powders. You should be able to easily hit 3000fps with the 200g AB. That equates to a devastating elk killing combo for a long ways a way.

I have been shooting a 300Wby Mag for a lot of years now and have kept it pretty simple. I shoot a 180 Nosler Partition over a max load of RL 22. I get groups under an inch and have shot coyotes, hogs, mule deer, and elk with it. Never lets me down!

I started using the Nosler Partition when hunting w/high performance cartridges over 20 years ago. Can't go wrong with a 180 or 200 Partition from that big Weatherby. Then again, the AccuBond didn't exist back then, and from reports here and elsewhere, it sure seems like a winner.

Nice choice on the Hart barrel!

Regards, Guy

I am probably the biggest proponent of the AccuBond Bullet in the world but I'm sorry to say I havn't converted my 300Wby yet "BUT" I've been using 180 nos/parts for almost 30 years for every thing. 77gr IMR 4350 CCI 250 primer WBY case. I get 3145fps out of my Winchester's 24 in. barrel. Another real good load (but expensive) is the 180gr Swift A Frame ( a bonded Partition with 95%+ weight retention and awsome penetraton with perfect expansion) 84gr. Reloder 22, CCI 250 primers, R/P nic cases at 3100fps. Again in my 24" Winchester. I have taken elk, deer, hogs and a couple of really unlucky jackrabbits with these loads.
Good Hunting
Elkhunt

The 200 gr PT or AB will be tough to beat in your 300 Wby for long range.
Of the two bullets mentioned, I would let that #4 Hart barrel tell you which one to pick.

84.5 gr IMR 7828 makes my 180 Scirocco's do 3250 from my 300 Wby, 26" barrel. 3/4" 3 shot groups.

At that distance you need a higher B.C bullet for flatter trajectory and higher retained energy. That said, a boatial bullet is your best choice. I don't own Weatherby but I load for a friend that has one. I'm using Swift 180 grain Scirroco and 85 grain of IMR 7828. Velocity is 3300 fps.

I use a 180gr Partition gold with 84.5 gr of imr7828. I get just around 3200 fps, but, I get touching groups at 100 yds if i shoot well and wait 15 minutes between shots to elimate overheating of the barrel. And my brass shows no sign of too much pressure.

My brother took an elk at 500 yds with this load, but i have yet to shoot one further than 300 yds. I set the rifle for just over 3 inches high at 100, close to 4 inches high at 200 and about flat at 300. I do have access to a "range" on my ranch with about a 600 yard shot.
Good Luck!
Hardpan.
