Needs some goo load advice for a 300 Win Mag with 200gr AB with H1000?

My rifle is a Browning FN

Thanks

Jeff, I am using RL22 with the 200gr Sierra Gameking right now and I "think" I am up around 73gr's. I am away from my notes at the moment, but it is accurate and I have clocked it at 2950FPS out of my 24" barrel. It shoots well and fast. It is also a hard hitting combo. I am switching to the 200gr Nosler when I return, and I am going to start off with RL22, CCI250's and WW cases. Good luck. That sounds like a great combo with the AccuBond. Scotty

RL 22 works very well with the 180 gr loads. I have a friend that wants me to load the 200 gr AB for his T/C Encore 300 WM.
That is what I will start loading once my buddy "funds" the project.

Thanks for the info 73.0 of RL 22

Really like the BC of the 200gr Nosler AB which is better than the 200gr Sierra GK..........should work great in the 300 Win Mag

It will be an awesome bullet in the 300 Win Mag. I thought about trying them out, but went with the PT's instead. I got a bunch of them as 2nd's. Either way, looking forward to seeing how your load work goes. If the PT's don't shoot, I am going to try the Accubonds. I think the 200's really shine in the 300 Mag's at nearly 3,000FPS. They have a ton of SD and awesome BC's across the board. Scotty

My target vel will be 2950 FPS with the 200gr AB in the 300 Win Mag.

RL25 and H1000 are my go to loads with the heavies in the 300 winnie.

I don't think you will have any issues getting it. I got that with RL22 pretty easily. I think I could have went higher, but I was getting great speed and excellent accuracy. I am really hoping the PT's do the same. I can't imagine a better all around load than a 300WM with the 200gr PT. The AccuBond will probably be better with its BC though. Good luck, hope you reach your goal, I will be watching to see if you can do it, as I will start on mine after I return home. Scotty

I found my best accuracy just below 2900 fps. If I got over 2900 fps then accuracy went to hell

Good shooting Woods!

I first discovered the magic of the 200 gr bullets with the .300 Win mag about 25 years ago.

Excellent accuracy, high BC's that resist wind deflection, and well, they just shoot right through everything I pointed them at... Gotta love that. These days I'm shooting a WSM, not the belted .300 Win mag, but I still like 200 gr bullets. My old friend and comrade-in-arms Lefty315 (who occasionally posts here) talked me into trying 200's with the WSM... Thankfully I listened.

With the .300 Win mag, my first choice would be RL-22, but other slow-burning powders work well too. The .300 comes on like a wrecking ball with a good 200 grain bullet.

I wonder if the 200 grn AB can be done with 3.340 OAL? The magazine in my Ruger is pretty stingy, I can only seat out to 3.355, so I never tried the 200s. :? The 180s do fine though.

Hey POP

Even in the Nosler book it states to seat them out longer than 3.340" if the mag allows it. The 180 Protected Point will be 3.340"

I was reading in some of my old books and they were using 76.0 of H4831 with the 200 grain Part for close to 3000 FPS and 78.0 with the 180's to 3100+ FPS in the 300 Win Mag.

Finn Aagaard suggests 74.0 of H4831 for 2880 FPS with the 200gr............new standards.

The old vel were higher before they lowered the Vel to today standards............am I correct?

Yes Sir you are. These days with liabilities all over data became conservative. I remember reading through some old manuals and the 7mm rem mag loads suggested 175 gr bullets at 3100 fps!
The 76 gr of H4831 is now the standard for 180 gr Bullets in the 300 Winnie.

Also remember back in the day you can get 50 lbs of surplus 4831 for a song. This does not mean it had the same burning rate as the one today.

Well, I have a 150 of the 200gr PT's for the 300 Win Mag. Might be awhile till I get to them, but I think they are going to be rippers. I might have to give H4831 a try in those. Scotty

A couple of quick loads for 200gr bullets out of Noslers #3 manual. These are the listed MAX LOADS

IMR 4350 68gr for 2950
IMR 4831 71gr for 2970
H 4831 70.5 for 2910
RL 22 72.5 for 2960

I've done a little playing with 200s in my Model 70 with both NPs and some Woodleighs.

a load of 71grs of IMR 4831 clocked in at 2950
a load of 84grs of Retumbo clocked in at 3180. A half grain more REALLY maxed it out. I tell the truth and going over my notes this velocity is probably wrong. I loaded more @ this and found 200 ft/sec less. May have been the way the sun was shinning on the Chrony that day.
a load of 74grs of IMR 7828 clocked 2980
a load of 75grs of RL 25 clocked 2880

It looks like the Woodleighs are faster than the NPs. But I'm betting it is just how the chrony is picking up the bullets.
I hope this helps a little.

I bought this last run of the Model 70s before they closed shop for a while. Found it in the Crapy Tire in Red Deer. It's been used the last two years with 180 e-tips. Had the trigger done this summer and it sure closed the groups. With a straight 6X Leupold on top I'm getting 3/4 to just under with 75.5 grains of IMR 4831.
