I was given a bunch of once fired brass for reloading (family member). Included in this lot were 40 Nosler brass. My dilemma is that the brass by all manufacturers required trimming (to be expected) and most were around 2.622 plus or minus but all required trimming. The Nosler brass were all less than the SAAMI minimum or 2.61. None were really even close they averaged around 2.601 and some were less. I checked headspace on the rifle and that doesn't seem to be the problem I wouldn't expect it to be since all brass came out of the same rifle and only the Nosler was short. Any ideas? I've never run across this before

this brass is about .010 shorter than SAAMI spec . that's not going to cause you any problems . I would use it and let it grow . I would not trim the other brass short to match the Nosler brass .

nothing with the rifle should cause this . I've read a few times about new Nosler brass being a little short .

It's not just nosler brass. I have Hornady ,Lapua and Norma for 6.5 prc. They're all short. Guess that's the industry's side of shrink flation.

Its a non issue!!!!

Here's what I'd do .

Shoot the nosler ONLY..until you exceed 2.610...
The trim to length.

Then collectively FL resize all the brass.

Trim ALL brass to 2.610

Now you're at ground zero.

Then....

..........

Fuhgetaboutit and enjoy!

Thanks everyone for replies. It appears this is a non-issue so I won't worry about it for now. When the Nosler brass is stretched to 2.61 I'll trim them all the same and work from there.

Most likely you just trim them once or twice in its lifetime. I have 15 X fired brass, its a non magnum, that has seen just one trim.
I have a ton of WSM brass that has well over 10 firings and still trucking but they've been trimmed much more than once.

I don't know where your magnum threshold is but mine are approaching 3100 fps with 180 grain bullets. Out running all of my crew's traditional 300WM and not terribly far from the 300 WBY

IMO, still the greatest 30 cal ever made

I'm pushing them to 3,125 fps to 3200 fps with RL 22 and H1000 with my 300 WM. I have approached 3300 fps with RL26 during a test a couple years back. I keep them .5 to 1 grain less from where I see pressure like ejector marks. I use the 180's as well. Normally I see loose primer pockets north of 5-6 firings, and I usually toss them at about 6- 8 firings and start with new brass.
