Just throwing this out there. If you where strictly loading for all round hunting in NA, what bullet would you choose and why? I have a T3 and am stuck between going with a 168 TTSX or maybe a 180 PT or AB.

Any of the bullets you name will work for North America. I prefer the 180 grain bullets for my 300 WSM (and if it was a 300 Win Mag, it would be the same). I like heavy for calibre bullets. Also, I'd lean toward the Partition because of proven effectiveness on game even at lower velocities. I have no difficulty with shooting at reasonable distances with the 180 grain Partition, so it still meets my personal criterion for game.

I'd go with a 200 gr PT and never look back.

Yep, if I wanted the recoil of a 300 magnum I would choose a 200 PT.

I believe a 180 out of a 30-06 would kill just as well. That's why I choose the 30-06 (and because I can't take the recoil of the 300 and still shoot well).

I think the answer is prefaced on what exactly in NA, are you really going to hunt? For elk, deer, caribou, black bears and the like, I have had outstanding results over 50 years with the 180 PT. For hunting I will not shoot anything other than the PT in my WM. If you are "really" going to hunt the big nasty bears, and Yukon or Alaska Moose I would choose the 200 gr. In fact the 200 gr. Is not really a bad choice, for all of the above. Even a PT can be bad news on deer at close range, but shot placement can help with meat loss. The recoil with the 200 gr will be noticeable, but you are not going to plink with it. Go with the 200 gr. PT.

Game will be elk, deer and black bear. Just trying to decide on a good bullet to start with. Spring bear season is coming up soon and want to get the ball rolling :)

With the .300 Win mag, I was happy with the 180 gr Nosler Partition...

Then I tried the 200 grain version... Wow... It shot GREAT. That and the 200 gr SPBT Sierra. This was LONG before the advent of the Ballistic Tip or the AccuBond.

Yeah, I'd favor the 200's, but the 180 is certainly an excellent choice.

Yup. I've returned to the .30-06, despite never really leaving it, and the .300 mags are more than I care to deal with.

Yet I still like shooting the .375? Sigh...

I always used 165 PT's for deer in my .300's but I used 180's or 200's for elk. Just to make sure that I got that extra angle of penetration ability for a less than perfect angle?

Given the parameters on bullet choice by the OP I would go with the180 gr. Partition. If Iwere my given my druthers, it would be the 200 gr. Partition. Either one will work just fine. I shoot the 200 gr. Speer Hot Core using a stiff load of WMR powder and it dropped a cow elk at 530 laser measured yards. Velocity is close to 2900 FPS and recoil is not all that bad in an 8 pound rifle with a Decelerator pad.

Hmm, I have some 200gr Speer. Wasn't sure how well they would hold up at the WM speeds.

They'll do just fine in your 300 WM. I use 200 grain Sierra GKs in my 300 WSM to good effect.

I would hate to have to pick "one bullet" for everything, I almost did that for several years in a couple of 300 Win Mags. It was the Barnes 180 XBT going around 3050-3100. 76gr R22 was the berries. I had the opportunity to take or seen taken ( I had given one of these 300 mags to my Associate Pastor on a trip in '98) kudu, gemsbuck, Springbuck, Impala, Blesbuck, warthog, hartebeest, blue wildebeest. My impression was the Barnes 180 XBT hit hard and was especially good on the heavy muscled/thick skin animals. I'm sure a 180 Partition would have done the same thing. I've also had great results on whitetail with the Sierra 150 Pro Hunter, and the 150 Partition would be swell too. My Afrikaner buddy liked the 165 XBT in his 300 win. Over the years I've seen really great results from my own use or the use of others ( I ask everybody I see at the range and in the mountains what they are shooting/bullet use) 150's in .308; 165s in 30-06; 180s in 300 mags; 200 in 300 Ultra mags. Now, I have too much fun and life is too short for me to settle on just one bullet, but lots of folks do. Good luck to you Pard.

I have chosen one bullet per caliber. For example: 110 AB for .257 Roberts, 130 PT for .270 Win, 160 PT for 7mm Mag, 165 PT for .30-06, 210 PT for .338 Fed and 250 AB for 9.3x74R. This pretty well covers any ground from prairie dogs to brown bear.

Got 4 boxes of 168 TTSX to throw into the mix...lol
Seems RL22 is the powder. Has anyone experienced temp sensitivity with it?
