Hello,

I picked up a BAR 300 WSM and would be grateful for some shared loading advice for Wisconsin Whitetail Deer appliction. I'm thinking either 150 grain or 165 grain bullet of the sold base or AccuBond. Range from 100 to 300 yards field hunting. The auto is not a bolt so a clean burning powder and under max loads is where I would look to.

Thanks for any help....

Sorry, haven't tried anything but the 180 or 200 gr bullets in my 300 WSM (bolt action).
The 165 gr would get my nod for a lighter bullet, as a great compromise for your application, as your distances do not require the higher velocities to flatten longer trajectories.Aand should you ever decide to hunt bear, moose or elk, they will still work fine.
I love the AccuBonds; easy to work up good loads with, accurate, and perform well on game of all sizes.
I have thought that a BAR in 300 WSM would be a great bear gun for the thick timber!

Here are the results. Nosler factory 165 BT was 3200 fps with 1.25 - 1.75 group of 3 shots.
62 grains of H4350 with a 165 grain Sierra Gamechanger shot less than 1 inch group at 2850 fps.
Found an 180# 8 pt buck at 95 yards, lung shot, deer ran off 30 yards. The entrance hole was about the size of a dime, exit hole after hitting one rib was about the size of a quarter. I was shotcked to see the deer turn and run from a broad side shot.
I think the bullet is too hard for deer and now loading Nosler 165 solid base.

Sounds like the AccuBond performed exactly as designed.
30 yards is a short tracking job. Typical of a double lung hit.

Most heart shot animals will travel further as a shock to the heart causes the brain to release endorphins into the body that typically results in a death run of an average of 100 yards, despite the animal being "dead" on its feet.
As stated above, only central nervous system (brain or spine forward of the shoulders) hits guarantee DRT results.

While many people say they want, or brag that they got, DRT results from well placed shots to the vitals, most inexperienced hunters do not realize that most well hit animals will travel anywhere from a few steps to 100 yards with typical shots such as these. While DRT can occur, it is the exception, and not the norm.
Any experienced hunter has realized that this is typical behaviour, witnessed after many experiences in the field, and that most animals do not die instantly from good bullet placement. Animals have a tenacity for life that is underestimated by many people, and inexperienced hunters.

I would not base my bullet choice on one kill .
