a freind of mine asked to find a hot 180gr load he has a 150gr and 165gr that group around a 1/2 inch .He is loading for SS ruger.

Then he needs to sit down with his components , a good manual and find what his rifle likes best. Just because the load works well in my rifle doesn't mean the same load will work well in his. Plus we don't know his shooting ability nor the capability of his set-up.
Not trying to be a hard nose but when someone asks for a"hot load", I figure they don't know a lot about loading or safety associated with max loads.Rick.

my buddys a very hard core reloader . Kinda thought that some one might be reloading for the same caliber and rifle

jiggs,

Rick is right on the money, every rifle is different. You have to load to the limits of one'e rifle.
Although top speeds are nice, great accuracy is better. I will give up fps for sub MOA any day. The game will not notice the difference in velocity and precise accuracy/marksmenship will fill the freezer everytime.

Like the other guys said, who knows if my favorite load will work for you, but here is what I settled on in a Winchester Model 70 Super Shadow chambered in 300 WSM.

I tried IMR 4831, RL 19, RL 22, and N 560 powders and several 180 grain bullets.

The best load in this rifle consisted of a Winchester case, a Fed 215M primer, 68 grains of IMR 4831 and a 180 grain bullet. With either Sierra Pro Hunters or the Nosler Partition, velocity was about 3050 fps and the groups were a pretty consistant 0.75 inches.

Hope this helps, R F

I have a sub .5MOA 180g load. However start below and work up as I neck size and have a large chamber. This is a fairly full load.

74.5g AA MagPro behind 180g Nosler BT

This is not compressed in my neck-sized cases, so beware if yours is.
