Back around the first of the year I toyed around with the Hornady 220gr RN and TiteGroup for subsonic loads. Not that I could finally have time to hit my range , I tried them out.
My S2 Vanguard has a 1:12 twist and I found that to be a handicap. They impacted 18.5” low on my 208gr A-max zero. The holes are not quite round. The second group was showing a more egged holes. They didn’t group bad , actually better than when I shot them at full velocity some time back.

Forgot to add the Garmin photo for the first group.

Today I ran one into water pails , and as expected no expansion on the 220gr RN. Found in the 4th 5gal pail.

For the heck of it I ran a 130gr TTSX into 5gal pails also. Petals were in the first pail and the shank stopped between the 2nd and 3rd pail.

I've shot the 220's from the 308 with good success - but two rather different rifles:

24" 1:12 twist stabilized at full charge

16" 1:8 twist stabilized even at subsonic velocity

I suspect that the 1:12 twist and the low subsonic velocity is just a bad combo for properly stabilizing the 220's.

Sound assessment, I should think!

Those 220’s act like solids. You just need to drive them hard. FWIW, the Sierra 220 gr GK RN bullets shot really well at 2440 fps out of the Nosler M21 308 Win with a 1-10” twist.
The speed was faster than Remington’s published data for 30-06 220 gr SPCL load.

Lack of expansion due to low velocity on the 220 round nose. I'm curious on its expansion if pushed at max velocity.
130 TTSX is not bad at all, despite it losing all its petals. How fast were you pushing the 130 TTSX?

I will test these at higher velocity at some point. I have a 3000 fps load for the 300 Wby , but I may dig out the 30-378 and see if I can turn them inside out.
Thanks to Guy for shining the light on TiteGroup reduce loads on UR , one can test bullets at close range to see how they behave at distance.
