I have been using IMR 4320 mid range loads with 150 grain Partitions. Shoot nicely out a 28 inch Encore barrel. When I use the same load with a 20 barrel ruger rifle I recently bought, I get lots of flame coming out the barrel. Is there a faster burning powder anyone likes that works better with shorter barrels so the flame thrower effect will go away? Thanks.

Tomorrow I am heading to the range to sight in a 16 inch threaded 300 blackout barrel I bought for my Contender. Still waiting for my suppressor. I put a buddy's can on this barrel yesterday and we shot it in his back yard. 220 grain Sierra Match Kings, 8.5 grains of N110, 1050 fps on the Crony. Gun is Hollywood Movies Silencer quiet. All you could hear was the hammer strike with a whoosh coming out the barrel followed by a very loud smack when the bullet hit the big pine tree on the other side of the Lake 100 yards away.

Take a look at RL 15 and IMR 4895 for the 20" barreled 308.

Is the 300 a Wisper?

JD,
They SAMMIed the 300 blakout.
Almost the same as the wisper. I think the shoulder maybe a little different.
My buddies and I have them and they are great piggy stoppers.
We have been using 150 B-tips.

Thanks,   I'll try RL 15 and IMR 4895 in a few cases.

The 16 inch barrel 300 is a MGM made 300 blackout. I also have a SSK made 300 Whisper barrel in 26 inch, another Thompson Center custom shop 300 Whisper in 21 inch and lastly a 10 inch threaded MGM barrel in 300-221 Fireball. I only have dies for the 300 Whisper so I shoot that round in everything and every one is a tack driver. The developers of the 300 Blackout say the pressure in the Blackouts are a tad higher and not to try "300 Blackout" in whisper or 300-221 barrels but it is OK to shoot 300 Whispers and 300-221 Fireballs in the 300 Blackout chambers. As stated before, there is some tiny difference in the shoulder of the Blackout case but I'll be darned if you can tell by looking at them both at the same time.

Pictures of these rigs and cartridges would be sweet! Scotty

I shoot 43 grs IMR 4895 with 150s in my 21 1/2" barrel 308 and it is super accurate and not muzzle blast heavy. If you really want a drop a deer in it's tracks load go to 46 grs IMR 4895 and the 125 Nosler ballistic tip. I have been using it for a number of years and it just hammers deer in their tracks.

Ran a lot of Bl-C 2 through a CETME assault rifle with if memory serves an 18" barrel. I believe part of the design parameters of this powder was reduced muzzle flash in the M14 and M60GPLMG. Very liitle flash signature for this gun that will belch fire and brimstone with 4320. Makes very accurate loads in my wife's boltgun too.

Also had good results with 4064. Use that with 174 gr in a mosin M44 carbine 7,62X54r with little muzzle flash. Should have similar results in .308win.
