All this talk about them.. Might have to give a bag a whirl if I see them pop up.. Seems like I can get some speed on them. It'd be fun to run some of them into the jugs from my 338..

I used to poo poo the lighter bullets in the 338 till I started using the 210 PT. That bullet, along with the 200 AB are game changers in the 338 Win Mag.

I might have to try some out of my 270!

The 130 grain E-Tip works very well on both moose and elk out of my 270 WSM.

I am definitely going to try some! Think muzzle velocity of 3,100 is enough for expansion?

Mike Impact velocity?

I don't know, Fotis. These were the Federal loads that were marketed a couple of years ago. I was told these were E-Tips, though Federal markets them as "Trophy Copper." The moose was shot at ~80 yards and muzzle velocity was 2630 fps/24 inches, so impact velocity would have still been ~2450 or so.

That is pretty impressive if that bullet opened up like that at 2400 or 2500 ft./s.

I thought I remember seeing a post where David's son shot a cow elk or a young bull at like 400 yards out of his 6 mm 90 grain E tips and said it was a pass-through. And my making that up or was that true David?

The petals are intact. When I get my desktop back, I'll see if I can post a picture of a recovered bullet. In any case, the animals (moose, elk and whitetail) were quite dead. :)

What happens to the petals if you hit bone, do they break off?

The ET is about the only bullet I have seen (through pictures) that's retained its frontal area through everything. One of my problems with the Barnes is the brittle front ends that seem to shear off pretty easily. The PT sorta does the same thing, but still keeps a heatlhier front end from what I have seen. Even the 225 TSX from my Whelen sheared off one of those big old petals from a black bear and those are pretty meaty on those sized bullets..

That was David. He and I like the big cartridges too, but we're both pretty enthused about the .24 & .25 cal rifles being plenty of rifle for most North American hunting. Bullets like the E-Tip build on that, and I think take the small bores to a new level with the penetration they offer.

I am definitely going to try some. Maybe in my 243???

I'm loading 90 grain E-Tips for my grandson's .243. I'm comfortable that it will have him punching above his weight when used on game.

I have a featherweight Model 70, .243. What powder are you using? Let me know how far off the lands you end up?

The Barnes bullets shearing off their petals isn't a bad thing, you could actually make the argument that it can act like a mono version of the Nosler Partition where it was designed to lose the front end.

I do like the E tip quite a bit and am hoping to be able to get the 3 boxes of 6.5mm 120 gr on order in soon to try in the 264 WM. Should be able to get 3250-3300 fps pretty easily I would guess. With a b.c. of .497 it will shoot flat and handle anything that comes it's way at close range too.
