I loaded up the 338 RUM with the new 300 gr ABLR using Retumbo and getting a MV 2830 fps and ME 5353 fpe. I ran one into 1 gallon water jugs at 100 yards. The bullet almost exited the 6th jug where it was recovered. Bullet measures .968" and weighs 224.4 grs.
On game performance is impressive and decisive. I filled my doe tag 12/30/2020 with this bullet. The shot was only 70 yards but it put her down at the shot with a solid lung shot. Pictures show entrance and exit wounds.

That is a heckuva hole on that gal! I'll bet the impact was decisive.

:)

Just wow! That got it done! With a hole that size, we’re there any guts left to remove?

Would not be shocked to hear heart and lungs were gone!

Great jug test Jim!

That’s a wad if bullet and nearly an inch of expansion is really something.

How’s that bullet seated in your 338? Are you able to seat it out a bit?

Scotty,
Unfortunately the bullet ogive is seated just below the case mouth to fit in the magazine. My COL is 3.640" and 3.650" would get me at the ogive.

I was thinking it looked pretty deep in there. How's it shooting on paper Jim? That sucker definitely seems FAST!

Why did I think Remingtons had more room in the magazine than a Winchester?

Armour plated deer in your neck of the woods???!!! You best find yourself two Moose tags...just get em to stand one in front of the other. That works.....testing complete. CL

JD , would you measure the length and diameter of one of these bullets for me . thanks Jim

thanks JD .
my 300 gr berger E- hunter bullets are 1.811 " so this ABLR is considerable longer . the reason I asked diameter is , I read a guy on another forum say the ABLR bullets have been a little on the small side . my berger is .3375 " . I'll have to measure up the couple ABLR bullets that I have here , 6.5's and 7mm 's to see if they are sized the same as other bullets .

I’ve seen quite a few Noslers that mic .0005 smaller than their caliber.

I know I measured a bunch of 30 caliber bullets that went .3075.

thanks JD , I measured a bunch of different bullets yesterday . a few measured full caliber , a few measured .001 under , most measured .0005 under . funny thing is I get good results with all of them . thanks again .

Jim,
Land sakes! That’s a heck of a hole and 6 jugs with almost an inch of expansion is no joke!
V/R,
Joe
