.338-375Ruger Could I? Should I?

I've been looking for a way of milking a couple more FPS out of my .338. With the advent of the .375 Ruger's short case at the diamater of the belt it seems a whole new world of wildcats is in the making by merely rechambering and necking down the new case. The case head and feed problems should not exist. Have C&H make up some dies and work up some loads. What do you all think of this ? :?:

Should work fine. I wouldn't be suprised if we see it offered in the future.

Me, I find no need for more than the standard 338 WM. If I wanted more I'd go to the 338 RUM. Frankly, I find the 340 WBY obnoxious in a rifle I'd want to actually carry. The 338 RUM or 338/375 Ruger even more so.

Some things look good on paper but the practical outcome isn't...

Why not a RUM? Unless you're feeling frisky and bored.

Well, I wouldn't want to be obnoxious. So if I go to Montana I guess I'll just keep using my .416 Rem. Mag. But I sure wish Nosler would make an AccuBond for it.
Good Hunting

Greg,

A 338-375 Ruger would be unique and would be right up there with the 338 RUM. What about your 338 RUM?

Thanks JD338. I still have the .338 RUM. You gave me the loads for it and it killed a nice cow elk last year in Idaho. She ran 30 feet and dropped. I'm just looking for something new to play with. It would be hard to beat the .338 RUM but my .375RUM took two elk the year before last. You know I hear more and more about the .280AI and I know you have one. Tell me about it. Is it better on mule deer than the .270? I had a (dissapointing ) experience on a nice mule deer buck with my .270 so I only use it for blacktail and small whitetail now.
Good Hunting
Greg

I think that a 7mm or 30 cal wildcat off of the 375 Ruger case would be more of an efficient wildcat. I think that at best, and do mean pushing the limits, it would not out run the 338 RUM. A 7mm or 30 cal or even a 270 cal mag wildcat would be better advised in my opinion.

I was thinking the same thing. I have tried to find out the exact case capacity of the 375Ruger with no success, but I think it will be slightly less than the 338 RUM.

For a 7, the 7RUM seems a little much without a special twist & gains little over an STW with 140-160 gr. bullets, this case could be tough with a 160ACC.
