Dear All,

I am new to this forum and new to reloading.

I have TRG 42 in 338 Lapua and I would like to know if any of you has any experience with reloading the Lapua using TTSX 225 gr bullets and Vihtavuori 170 powder. Is it a good combination?

Also how far should the bullet be backed off from the lands?

Thank you all

Piast,

Welcome to the forum. I've loaded for the 338 Lapua. In past tests, I have loaded 225 grain AccuBond bullets with Supreme 780, H1000 and N560. I also loaded 225 grain TSX bullets with Magnum and US869. There does not appear to be a problem using N170, though I have not personally used this powder. In fact, I just secured a one kg container of N170 about two weeks ago. QuickLOAD indicates that it would be a good powder for that particular bullet. Were I loading for the 338 Lapua and using the 225 TSX, I would likely consider N170 as one of the initial powders for testing. Use the Vihtavuori reloading data for the Hornady 225 grain, working up carefully and you will be well within the QL recommendations.

Welcome to the forum, glad to have you here.
I load for the ballistic twin, 338 RUM and have had great success with RL 22, RL 25 and Retumbo.
These powders should also work for your 338 Lapua.

I never had experience with any of the VV powder but Reloader 25 works well with 250 grain SMK in my rifle. I also use Retumbo for the 300 grain SMK. Accuracy is outstanding.

Man, I can't wait to see the results on the range with that rifle. Those big Sako's are pretty impressive! Scotty
