Got a chance at shooting one of the ultimate in long range rigs. 338 Lapua Windrunner with a Nightforce 5.5-22x50 and Elite Iron suppressor. Used a 300 Matchking going 2800fps. At 300 yards it was easy to shoot half inch groups. I think the 10oz set trigger and recoil like a 223 helped some

Wow. That is an awesome rig. I picked a bad weekend to not come shoot! Scotty

Heck of a rig. A few years back I had an opportunity to put a Windrunner in .408 CheyTac to work. Very, very impressive. They're expensive rifles, but if you need something rock solid and accurate at long range...

You did pick a bad weekend not to shoot. It will be at the range again! So much stuff on that rig that made it neat to shoot!

Rock solid! That's what stood out the most about that rifle. Built like a bank safe.

Nice, buddy! I looked at a Windrunner at a gun show in Colorado Springs when I lived there... .50 Browning. To say I was smitten would be an understatement. Being able to break the thing down into a case not much longer than the barrel was awfully cool!

Isn't the wind runner a system you can change the bolt and barrels on the platform to shoot chey tac 50 bmg and lapuas through the same action? And how much is a wind runner? I am heading more in the direction of one action multiple barrels and this looks interesting to me.

So is that barrel free-floated?

It is a switch barrel/bolt rifle. 338, 408, and 50cal all by changing the barrel and bolt. Another of the many interesting features of the rifle. Looks like they are currently $6250 new but supposedly can be found for less? I cannot say enough about how much fun and how easy it was to shoot using the suppressor.

So are you thinking about one? Just wondering cause man, I keep looking at the Lapua cases I owe Jim on my bench. I would love to have a proper 338L. Scotty

338 Lapua is a maybe but a suppressor for the centerfire rifles is a big YES!

I love that Lapua. It just carries alot of awesome combat history, and I know it would be a sweet rifle for shooting and hunting! Scotty

if your pulling it out of a truck setting up on hill and shooting steel or animals great but for having to pack it hunting i would pass, that thing looks like it would rub sores on you faster than you could put salve on them. scotty if your looking for a 338 lapua for hunting the trg 42 would fit the bill nicely plus you could put a nightforce on it and still walk away with 1500 bucks. for a long range stationary rig with calibre options the windrunner would be on the list.

Jeff, if I ever did a Lapua, I am pretty sure it would be a Blaser or Sako. I have shot the Blaser a bit and it was really sweet and kinda neat in the straight pull action. I have some time to mull that over cause I am not falling head over heals with duckets just yet. Scotty

That thing is a monster at 22 pounds for the rifle alone. That TRG would be a great choice as would the Blaser for a Dedicated long range hunting rig.
