I just got off the phone with a place that is selling a tikka t3 in a 338 win mag, I will probably wind up buying it sometime here shortly, and I am wondering If anyone has any good loads and results for this gun. Thanks

My Browning w/BOSS liked Fed GM215M and 73gn of RL-19 to propel a 225AB. Velocity is just shy of 2800.

The bullet that I was looking at was anything from 200 grain to 300 grain. And thank you both for the load data. Now all I have to do is get the rifle and I will be set. :grin:

I suggest starting with H4831, or H4350. Good bullets are 200 gr AB/BST or 225gr AB, Win Brass, and WMRP. and work up carefully. I've found great with each in my rifle.

Don't forget the 210 gr PT. It is an awesome bullet in the 338 Win Mag and kills way out of proportion for its weight. Its also the bullet that is endorsed by the RMEF.
Good loads should get you to 3000 fps.

Retumbo works very well in the 338 RUM. If you are loading for your 338 Win Mag, try RL19 and RL 22. :wink:

Any pet loads for the .338 Winnie using a 250 gr. Partition using RL 19 or 22?
I mainly hunt elk in Western Washington- its fairly brushy here and I am sold on the Partition's penetration with those tough shots.
I have been using 91 grains of RL 25. Average muzzle velocity is right around 2890 FPS with acceptable accuracy.

In the 338 Win Mag, 72.0-73.0 grs RL 19 or 74.0-75.0 grs RL 22 should get you close to where you want to be. Remember to work up carefully.

The 91.0 grs RL 25 charge you mentioned is for what I assume a 338 RUM with a 250 gr PT. I got excellent accuracy at 90.0 grs RL 25 and the 250 gr PT

98.6 grs Retumbo in the 338 RUM with the 250 gr PT shot in the .5" with an avg vel of 3024 fps.

With the 250 gr AB, 98.6 grs Retumbo shot very well, but avg vel was down at 2937 fps.

Thanks for the load information for the .338 Winnie & RUM. I will give those powders a shot! The grass is always greener they say....
Yes, you are correct on the RL 25 data. That is for the .338 RUM. I am grouping around 3/4 of an inch @ 100 yards. I am using a Federal 215 M primer. The rifle is a Remington 700 XCR. I am contemplating rebarreling and or installing a muzzle brake on the RUM. Any experience with a brake on this caliber? Thanks for letting me pick your brain!

I have a 700 LSS and my nephew has a 700 XCR, both are 338 RUMs.
Last weekend, I put 22 rounds through them off the bench, no brake or porting. Just a lot of raw recoil. :shock:
