I have looked in a few books at the maximum loads for 200gr. bullets but none of the info matches. Everyone seems to have different info and they are all way different. Can someone give me the final answer please.

Ozzie338,

Published loading data for any given cartridge is a guide only. Every rifle is different. That is why you start at the lower starting loads and work up while watching for pressure signs. Your rifle could reach max before you reach a printed max load.
The Nosler Reloading Guide #5, 338WM 200 gr and H414 shows startin load of 67.0 grs and a max load of 71.0 grs.
Are you looking for MAX velocity or accuracy?

Thanks I kinda figured that but why is everyone so diferent on their data? One book shows 67gr and another shows 72gr. thats a big difference in max recomendations. I guess I shouldn't be too worried though, the gun should be able to take a little extra. I'm shooting a Ruger No.1 with a custom barrel 24" made thick 1 1/2" dia. I shoots well with store bought rounds but drops like a stone at 300 yards. I've tried different combos with 4831, 4350, & RL19. I've tried 180gr. & 225 gr. AccuBond and 200 B-silvertips nothing worked well. It seems that the hotter I get with the powder the better it shot. I tried all of the different combos going from starting loads all the way to well passed max loads until primers started to show signs of high pressure. Nothing seemed to work.

A lot will vary due to barrel and receiver and how the chamber is cut.
Again, every gun is different. Also keep in mind that anyone who is publishing load data has lieability concers to think about. Careful loading can put you past someone's printed load data. That is why you must keep in mind that load data is a guide only.
I am currently loading for two different calibers and my accuracy loads are well past published load data. These loads are safe in my rifles but I would never suggest someone start off with these loads in their rifle.

Most 338 WM will shoot pretty good. Have you tried different primers? Look at the Federal GM215M primers if you haven't already.
Also try seating out the bullets. Seat them to .015-.020" off the lands or as long as the magizine will allow.

Are your expectations more than what the 338 WM can offer?
Dropping like a stone is rather vague. What are your objectives?
We will do our best to help you out.
