Went to the range this morning to break in my New Krieger Criterion barrel on my Custom 340Wby. I have never in my life broke in a barrel as quick as this one. It only took 9 rounds, in fact it was broke in by the 8th round. That is right. By the 8th round it only required putting bore cleaner using two patches, then one patch with copper remover then one with bore cleaner again and the cooper came out and then a dry patch and the patch was clean as a whistle.

The I started shooting groups of three then I would clean again and guys it only took the procedure I mention above and Thor's Hammer was ready for the next group. It does not like 210gr Partitions or 210gr Siroccos but it likes 250gr Acuubonds. Now none of the loads I shot today were max loads. Yep, things are really looking good this early. I am excited to say the least.

Here is how it shot the 250gr AccuBond using IMR7828 today group .657"

This rifle is not hard to shoot at all and recoil is not a strong with the 250gr bullets as my Ruger 338Win mag in that straight stock it has.

Though I can only see the one picture with the caliper, I am glad it worked out for you.

Hey, I only shot 18 rounds today in cludling break in. You just wait, I ain't finished by any stretch of the imagination. :) You ain't seen nothing yet POP!!!!! I know from shooting it today and years of experience shooting rifles and reloading, this is a shooter. I will give you more caliper pictures, you can count on it. :) :)

Looks like you are on your way! Nice shooting bullet.

Is your barrel the same grade Krieger that Saco uses for the USA made wbies (Criterion)?

Wow, that load/group is no slouch in anyway. 2900 with a 250 is awesome. I can imagine it will only get better, but that is a fantastic shooting and powerful load. Glad the recoil is tolerable. Seems like a lot of horsepower in that rifle. That 250gr AccuBond is an awesome bullet for longer ranges and should be excellent up close too. No need to mess around with those "light" 210's anyhow, get to shooting the big stuff! I can't wait to see what it does. Scotty

Actually Scotty, it was more pleasant shooting the 250gr AccuBond than the 210 Partition or Sirocco. I was a couple grains under max with that 250gr AccuBond and I think seating needs to change some. You know me, I will find where honey load is and what it is

That was my finding also. Seems like the 275gr bullets don't recoil as bad as the lighter bullets do either. Might just be in my head, but who knows. That will be an excellent load when you are done. That 340 is looking pretty appealing. Scotty

bullet,

How is the load development going for you with the 340 Wby 250 gr AB?

I am out of 250gr Accubonds. Have to order some. I was using the only three bullets I had left when I shot that one group of 250gr Accubonds that was just over 1/2". Working on 200gr, 210gr and 215gr till I can order some 250gr Accubonds.

It will take a while to accumulate all of the data and reduce it down to the loads that really perform. Also, I am taking my time. I have at this moment broken in the barrel and now I am beginning the process of working from 200gr up to 250gr bullets. You don't rush a 340Wby without a brake on it.

I am taking my time at the range and do not shoot over 25 or 30 rounds each time I go. This lets me have time without feeling I am rushed to get my work done properly and not waste money. Also, allows me time to cool my barrel and rest my shoulder while all the time making sure each time I pull the trigger that I practice good technique. Only focusing on my cross hairs and the exact spot I want to hit, while not paying attention to the recoil, because the shot is more important to me than what is happening to me.

Even though the 340Wby will remind you every time that it is a true magnum with a lot of authority, it is not prohibitive to shoot from my point of view. In fact, it is a real thrill to pull the trigger and see the dust storms the bullet creates when it hit the back stop.

Mike that 340 has got to let you know when it goes off! You seem to have an excellent mindset for load development. You are going to be really impressed with those 250's I think. I would like to get some more 250gr AccuBond, Partition or Gamekings and see what I can do with them. I messed with them a little and skipped to the 275's. Good luck and hope your componets come in and you can get moving on your new shooting iron! Scotty
