35 Newton 250 PT RL17

Did a little shooting last night with the 35 Newton. Shooting out at 250 yards a few weekends ago, I was getting around MOA off a sling shooting from the ground with my current load, but I wondered if I might be able to tune them up a little.

So, I decided to try something a little different and well, I didn't have a shooting bench, but a friend let me use his cow pasture to shoot, so I slung up, hung a target at 100 yards and gave it a whirl.

3.365 is the length I have been shooting for a little while. I am not completely sure if the group being a little bigger than what I'd expect is me shooting with the sling or the actual ammo. Shots felt pretty clean and such, so I am leaning towards the load itself..

Then I did the old trick and shortened them up just a little and shot this one.

3.350"

Then, I went a little long than my standard and shot this load.

3.372

I shot three, two were real close then I tossed the 3rd to the left. After letting the barrel cool for a bit, I went back to see if a 4th would go back to the 1st two, not a chance, landed on my 3rd shot..

I believe I will load a few more up at 3.350 and reshoot at 250.. I am sure I could tweak till the end of time, but honestly, since I have gotten away from the bench I am not sure I am capable of too much more precision at this point. Very happy though, the 250 PT's shoot well and pretty good across the board.

Scotty I am glad everything has been straightened out. Now hopefully we will get a field report on one of your hunting trips. I believe we are all interested in seeing & hearing about the performance of this rifle :).

Blessings,
Dan

That's looking good especially for shooting from field positions.

That's good shooting Scotty by any measure.
Interesting what that little tweak did.
That thing is gonna put the smackdown on something.

All you are showing qualifies as MOE (minute of elk). If the game co-operates, the rifle is capable of doing what it is supposed to do. Excellent.

Will you quit shooting that rifle. Every time you do and the post pictures I want one more and more.

Well, I am going to load up some more and take it out again today.. It's too much fun to let it sit in the safe!

Bill, it is an easy conversion on ANY magnum bolt face. I'd recommend it everyday for someone that isn't scared to run a case through a FL sizer and trim. It is very easy. The results are about as good as I could have ever hoped for.
